No doubt the Mackem's will all crawl out of the woodwork for their promotion party. In fact they have managed to prove that they truly do live in the shadow of the geordies with their feeble support on what looks like a championship winning season. I'm sure that the geordies would still average over 40000 if they ever played in the fizzy. Sunderland have played in front of a half-full Stadium of light for most of the season and only their great late surge has boosted their average attendance.

I'll go for 25000 genuine and 14500 part timers.

So attendance----39500

Sorry mate but you really shouldnt be commenting on things you have no idea about.

How can you say that Newcastle would average over 40,000 in division one? No one knows for sure, but i would say the fact that they were playing a vital european cup quater final in front of 31,000 fans proves you may be wrong.

If Newcastle or yourselves had just watched the worst team in premiership history, a team which went through three managers (Howard Wilkinson being one of them), watching the team you love lie down and die without any passion or pride, because they knew that they would still be in the premiership next season, even if the club wasnt, would that not have the same affect on gates?

We have fickle fans, **** me, who doesnt? Are you telling me your average hasnt dropped since you came down?

We play in front of a half empty stadium because we have a 49000 capacity. Your point?

As you say we have about 25000 "hardcore fans" is that really a terrible figure for the first division?

Newcastles crowds were down to around 16000 before keegan took over.

36500. Or 36499 if my train is late.

That was in the days before their ground was revamped. Their capacity was around 28-30 thou. Also it was before the prem realy took off. There was a real downturn in crowds nationwide after the troubles in the mid 80's and didn't pick up for a few years. I remember seeing city play with crowds of 7-8000 for top flight games against the likes of Ipswich. One season our average was down to around 10 000 at filbo.

Just like your fans regarding us going into administration

That is because the uefa cup is below their expectations, where as Sunderland would be more than happy to qualify for the competition.

Agree and have sympathy with you on that one.

Not at all, just that whether you like it or not you have a way to go to match your neighbours.

BTW i don't have anything against Sunderland, and good luck in the prem next season

Sorry if i came across a bit argumentative, I put it down to the nerves..

From todays performance I cant understand how you are where you are, we have seen many worse teams than Leicester this season.

Thanks to the fans who stayed to applaud our players

Probably see you in a couple of seasons ;-)

What's the point you're trying to make?

You started by saying the Geordies would get big crowds if they got relegated.
But the last time they got relegated their crowds dropped massively, they could only half fill the ground. That's nothing to do with the Premiership, redeveloped stadium etc, it's to do with Newcastle fans being just as fickle as any others.

A rather balshy reply to one of my posts webbo.

The point i was making is that Sunderland are behind Newcastle and if you were to compare the two clubs, the geordies are in todays market bigger in most areas over their rivals. Sunderlands last season in the prem was a disaster for them, with a record low points total. Their crowd averaged around 40000 and while i admit thats still good it was 8000 down on capacity. Newcastle introduced a rip-off bond scheme a few years ago because their 52000 ground capacity did not hold enough for all those that wanted to see them.

I don't think that's a valid reason to criticise them. Newcastle have always been a bigger club than Sunderland, and except for a handful of seasons, Newcastle have always had bigger crowds. You called their support 'feeble', but only Leeds have had bigger crowds than them in this division this season.

The reason they can only half fill their ground is because their ground is a lot bigger than a club their size would normally have.

.

Its not a criticism its a fact
Newcastle have always been a bigger club than Sunderland, and except for a handful of seasons,

Thats my point

Newcastle have always had bigger crowds. You called their support 'feeble', but only Leeds have had bigger crowds than them in this division this season.

If you read my earlier post to Redandwhite the term 'feeble' is used as a comparison between the two clubs not a criticism of their fans who still boast one of the highest average attendances in the fizzy

The reason they can only half fill their ground is because their ground is a lot bigger than a club their size would normally have.

Exactly they don't have the same fan base as their rivals.

If you are supplying the prize then I'd make it a tenner mate. 3 out - good effort!
