Douglas And Williams Make Comeback In Friendly

Gareth Williams and Rab Douglas made a successful return from injury in a behind closed doors friendly against Coventry City at the Belvoir Drive training ground on Tuesday afternoon.

Williams has been out of action for a month with an ankle problem, while Douglas picked up a shoulder injury during City's pre-season campaign.

But both players came through the game with no ill effects and will now continue their rehabilitation on the training pitch ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Birmingham City at St Andrews.

The match finished 3-3 - with Momo Sylla and Elvis Hammond (2) getting on the scoresheet for the Foxes.

Other familiar faces in the Leicester line up included Danny Tiatto and Alan Maybury.

City boss Rob Kelly said: "It was a good game contested between two strong teams. It was very worthwhile exercise."

Three stunning goals for City

LEICESTER CITY RESERVES 3-3 COVENTRY CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City Reserves scored three excellent goals in a friendly at Leicester City this lunch-time.

Alan Cork was able to field a very experienced side for this game at Leicester's training ground.

The opening exchanges were tight with Isaac Osbourne having the only real effort with a long ranger that flew wide in the 12th minute.

City took the lead in the 21st minute. Dele Adebola raced out of defence, shrugged off a marker and unselfishly squared for Kevin Thornton to stroke into the net from ten yards.

Two minutes later, more good work from Adebola played in Thornton once more. This time, the young Irishman's shot struck the far post with the keeper well beaten.

The home side drew level in the 37th minute when Momo Sila rose to head in a corner after some hesitancy from Gonzalez.
Two minutes later,City went straight up the other end. Ryan Lynch cut inside and thundered a twenty yarder into the top of the net at the far post.

On the stroke of half-time,a mistake in the Sky Blues defence fell for Elvis Hammond to poke the ball past the advancing Gonzalez.

Leicester had the early pressure in the opening exchanges in the second half. Dele Adebola was forced to clear off his line from a Danny Tiatto 50th minute free kick but ten minutes later, Elvis Hammond raced into the penalty area. The former Fulham youngster went down under a challenge from Ryan Lynch but got up to score from the resulting penalty.

Back came the Sky Blues and with twenty minutes left. Isaac Osbourne and Thornton worked well to lay the ball back to Don Hutchison who smashed a thirty yarder high into the net with a strike that was equally good if not better than his goal at Leeds United last season.

David McNamee looked comfortable at the back whilst the experience of Hutchison, Cameron and Adebola in midfield ensured that City left with a point and remain unbeaten in eight consecutive matches.

Think the return of Williams is a plus! Although he may be a lazy bas7ard he does create more attacking opportunitites then any other player!

Try him next to Weso, can not be any worse than we have had so far.

always thinking homer, always thinking...

that must hurt joe :102:

SSSSSHH newton, don't be disrespectful, joe_fox is better than all of us mere forum members & his insightful knowledge of City matters is a lesson to us all.
If only we could all even aspire to his level of understanding then maybe, just maybe we would be able to pass on his other-wordly powers to inspire the team to greatness.
Didn't you know that this forum is a shadow of it's former self since he stopped graciously passing on his superior footballing knowledge.
I personally hold Joe_fox responsible for the decline of our team, it's obviously his fault that our team are underperforming since he stopped posting in the general chat forum. :icon_roll

I believe his absence from our forums has also led to the decline and fall of the British Empire.

Hammond: Don't leave me in cold

Leicester City's Elvis Hammond today voiced his frustration at his failure to command a regular first-team spot.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian striker scored twice in a behind-closed-doors midweek friendly against Coventry City, after notching the first goal in the 3-1 Carling Cup victory at Hereford.

However, his Hereford appearance was only his third start of the season, and Hammond is desperate to re-establish himself at a time when City have failed to score in six of nine Championship games.

City are sweating on the fitness of striker Matty Fryatt, whose goal at Sunderland earned them a valuable point.

If Fryatt fails a fitness test today, Hammond may be back in the frame for tomorrow's clash at Midland rivals Birmingham.

But the player believes: "The goals haven't changed anything.

"It's very frustrating because I work hard all week and then sometimes I don't even get on the bench.

"Then it's harder when you do get to play because you have to pick yourself back up.

"I think I've done enough to start but it's the manager's decision. Whether it's the right one, well it's not for me to say."

However, Hammond says he will stop short of demanding a meeting with City manager Robert Kelly to discuss his future.

"Some players take a different route when they are not in the team and air their thoughts, but I'm not one to do that," he said.

"If I did, I don't know how the manager would take it. That's why I just let my feet do the talking."

Hammond's Carling Cup strike was also his first of the campaign - and his first start since a draw at Coventry a month ago. He said: "Hereford was a good game for me as I hadn't played for a while, and it was good to get 90 minutes under my belt.

"It's also important for my fitness levels because there are no reserve games. It was also a great help for my confidence."

Hammond, who joined City in a £225,000 move from Fulham in August last year following a loan spell, also enjoyed his involvement in the Sky Blues friendly.

"They had a decent side out and a good challenge because it was not like playing against kids," he said. "I'm just trying to get the most I can out of the games I do play."

Hammond has faced Birmingham before in one of his two Premiership appearances for Fulham in 2004.

Back on the subject of the thread, GO ON THEN HAMMOND...I reckon you can do it!

Just play off the defenders shoulder, use that pace of yours and don't think about it, just shoot! You can do it!
