Hat-Trick For Filbert
Fri 13 Feb 2009

Leicester City's very own Filbert Fox picked up the Mascot of the Year trophy for the third time in a row at the Leicester Mercury annual Sports Awards last night (Wednesday).

Filbert beat off competition from the likes of Leicester Tiger, Solly the Lion (Special Olympics) and Charlie Fox (LCCC) to the title after competing in a series of challenges.

The mascots took part in a round of ten-pin bowling, shot some basketball hoops and completed in a football dribbling race to determine the winner.

A City spokesman said: "Filbert seemed to be especially pleased with his ten-pin bowling score of 121, which included two strikes. He was a class act, as you would expect, when it came to showing off his dribbling skills, while his basketball technique was commended by Lee Hoos, our Chief Executive.

"But in all seriousness it's a great achievement by Filbert I am sure he will soon be in training once again to make sure he retains the title next year. "

He makes me laugh! I love the way he 'conducts' the crowd when the opposition goalie is taking a goal kick, and the shrugs and head shaking when the ref gets it wrong.

Well done Filbert!

Well done Filbert!

:icon_lol: That is always brilliant, he used to be really boring, they mustve changed the guy doing it in the past 3 or 4 seasons, because hes great now

I thought "Mascot of the Year" sounded quite prestigious (as far as mascots go), but then noticed it was just in Leicester!

Well done Filbert/Newts anyway! ;)

I have to admit he did make me smile on Saturday against Swindon. One of their players was injured in the box and Filbert was at the side of the pitch and had some how got some crutches and was offering them to the player.

It's a good costume. The eyebrows give his face real character, he always looks slightly peeved. Having done a bit of such 'skinwork' (not at football matches) I can tell you it's a hard job to keep up all the antics, the costumes are very hot.

Is this you by any chance?

Can't see your link, but unless it's Henry's Cat or the Wolf in Red Riding Hood, the answer's no.
