From the official County site:

Leicestershire CCC has been dealt a blow as all-rounder Andrew McDonald will miss the opening weeks of the 2011 campaign after being snapped up by Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils.

The Daredevils paid $30,000 above McDonald’s starting auction price of $50,000 to secure his services for a third season and the start of the IPL coincides exactly with the first day of the domestic season on Friday, April 8.

McDonald will be playing alongside former Leicestershire batsman Virender Sehwag and the Australian will now definitely miss the first four LV=County Championship games, six Clydesdale Bank 40 matches and the MCCU game against Loughborough.

The tournament runs through to Sunday May 22 and McDonald’s Leicestershire availability will depend on how far the Daredevils progress.

The full schedule is yet to be released but with the format set for 14 group games, McDonald will definitely be missing for the first five weeks of the campaign.

McDonald could be in the Leicestershire line-up to face Gloucestershire on Wednesday May 18 but that depends on whether the Daredevils finish in the top four of their group.

If they do progress beyond the group stage, there is the potential for three play-off games and a final and McDonald would therefore miss that fifth LV=CC game against Gloucestershire.

This was very predictable. Will we ever sign an overseas player again who is available for the entire season?

I can - yes we will.
