Iain Hume was quick to focus on next season after the Foxes went down 4-1to Wolves on the final day of the 2006/07 Championship campaign.
The defeat saw City finish in 19th place with 53 points from 46 games.
"It was a very disappointing way to end the season and at times it was embarrassing," said the Canadian international striker.
"After the first 20 minutes we got exactly what we deserved - absolutely nothing. Good luck to Wolves in the play-offs but we must forget about this result as soon as possible and start preparing for next season.
"The most important thing is that we went into the game knowing that we were already safe after a couple of good results.
"A few weeks ago we were really in trouble but managed to drag ourselves out of it.
"We didn't show up against Wolves and that was bitterly disappointing considering there were over 30,000 people inside the stadium."
Hume's early strike was his 14th of the season and on a personal note he was delighted to end a frustrating nine months with a goal.
"It was nice to score after a few games without one but I would have liked to have made it to 15.
"However, that gives me a target for next season if I can stay in the team."
Hume is now keen to see what developments unfold during the close season.
"The new chairman has come in and set out his ambitions for this football club," he added.
"I am sure we will see him, and the new manager, bring in a few new faces during the summer and then we must come back at the beginning of July and get ready for the new season.
"The pressure is always on us but next season will be a big one for us and people are going to expect a lot of good things from us.
"It's up to us to deliver."
For Hume the season is not yet over, as he is hoping to be involved in Canada's CONCACAF Gold Cup quest next month with games against Costa Rica (June 6), Guadeloupe (June 9) and Haiti (June 11) in Miami.
"If selected, it's going to be a tough summer but one that I am looking forward too.
"Hopefully I can play well and then come back as fit as I can for the start of pre-season with Leicester City."
