Another train question:

This is a reply I got from Nigel at Virgin trains:

------------------------
Dear Joe,

Thank you for contacting Virgin Trains.

I can confirm that with an Off-Peak Day Return Ticket, you can take any service during off peak hours both for your outward and return journey.

The off peak time restrictions depend on the specific journey that you are making, but generally apply during the early morning (before 09:30, Monday to Friday), early evening for travel from major cities including London (15:30 to 19:15, Monday to Friday) or on certain days of the week.

Every station has different peak and off peak timings due to different kinds of train traffic.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Nigel

--------------------

I have now asked him when the peak timings are for Leeds and he doesn't know! Can anyone help? Boc? I'm thinking you can.

I went back to London yesterday and they must have been working on the line because the train went up to Melton Mowbray, around rutland water and then corby. It took 1hr 10min to get to the next stop which was Kettering. :(

That's something that happens quite often on Sundays, it's usually publicised well in advance and often in the printed timetables.

Did it go over the Harringworth viaduct?

I was told it is sometimes still used when the trains are diverted, but they have to go really slowly.

I'm kind of guessing that if you're on the train you can't see the viaduct and possibly wouldn't know you were on it.

I take your point that you'd not appreciate the structure, but surely you'd notice you were that high up?

I just hope they are using it as it would mean they are continuing to maintain it.

Why would someone from Virgin Trains know details for Leeds when their trains don't go to Leeds?

They do go to Leeds :icon_roll

Dont get me started on trains, feckers have still not released the cheap tickets for May 4th.

****ing shambles.

We definitely went over something like that because I remember seeing it after the track bent round and we could see where we had just been.
