iPod chargers

My daughter had an 8GB iPod nano which got put through the washing machine (don't ask!).

We have recently bought her another 8GB one but this time it is the new slightly taller (more oblong one) that you shake to change track.

The unbranded charger that she used before (cheapy from Wilkinson) no longer works, it says "charging does not work with this accessory" or something like that. The charger is OK and still charges up my other daughters original iPod.

Is this another cheap tactic from Apple aimed at getting money out of people? The newer iPod charges from the PC alright still but not the charger from the mains.

Sodding Apple, rip-off merchants. Glad I went for Sony.

I have a similar problem with my docking station. My new Nano won't charge whilst connected to it. Apple rip off, me thinks

If you buy a new phone of the same manufacturer it doesn't always work with the old charger, another nothing thing for people to moan at apple for me thinks.

I'm more than happy with my Ipod and my docking station and have no problem with Apple at all. I just find it frustrating that future plans aren't taken into account when making products.

The newer iPod has the same size identical looking sockets as the previous model.

Unlike the phones you mention, iPods are NOT supplied with chargers, you have to buy them separately. If Apple have deliberately changed the specification so that earlier iPod adapters do not work with newer iPods then that is a disgrace IMO.

spion why doesn't she just charge it when she connects it to the pc? inconvenient if your using it abroad though, but a short term solution!

Thanks DD, she is doing that for now. Hopefully I will have bought her a new adapter by the time we go away!

Depends where you're going, but my son got MSN withdrawal whilst away, so spent an hour at an internet cafe each night and we plugged the iPod in whilst he was on there.
