If anyone is going to see Iron Maiden whilst there in the UK then you may be a bit disappointed by what you get to see. Two of my house-mates went along to the gig last night at Manchester's M.E.N Arena, they had both really been looking forward to going for a long time, they got tickets before last Christmas! However both came back really pissed off, for the first hour and half they played, neither of the two recognised (sp) a song that they played as they played their whole new album!! Not only this, they also said that they had very little stage presence left in them now which added up to give a very disappointing gig for which they had been waiting over a year for!! Although both were very pleased that they finished off with Fear of The Dark (at least thats what I think it is called!) as that gave the gig a little credibility. I was very shocked when I asked them if they played Run To The Hills (about the only song I know) their answer was no!!

Before anyone kicks off that they think I'm slating Iron Maiden, I'm not. I'm just warning anyone if they are going then they should listen to their new album otherwise you may be coming home as disappointed as my two house-mates.

I have seen these a number of times now and are one of the best live acts I have ever seen. These guys are serious musicians and are well into their 40's and 50's of course they aren't going to runaround for 2 hours anymore but they do still put on a fantastic show.

I haven't seen the setlist for this tour so I can't comment, but being as I know the new album really well I don't think I'd be disappointed.

Well it was more the fact that they only knew 3 or 4 songs that they played! You would think a huge band like them who many fans of yet to see them would play a bit more than just their new album, for if it weren't for their previous albums they wouldn't be able to sell out the M.E.N arena at 40 quid a ticket.

To be honest I couldn't give a **** as I'm not a fan of them, I was just trying to tell anyone else who is going what to expect as it was not what my friends were expecting. Only trying to be a help to other people, but you always get one knob jockey.......

I don't if your mates are aware Matt, but their new album is a concept album and is a story from start to finish. I think this will have been a major influence in them playing the whole album

Well they had never herd it before, so they were a bit disappointed to here many songs that they don't know when they know hundreds of their other songs!
I never realised Mike Skinner was such an influence on Iron Maiden!

I don't get the Mike Skinner reference?

His album: A Grand Don't Come For Free is a story from beginning to end as well! Only he did it a couple of years ago, although I'm sure it would of been done many times before him as well!

Indeed, like Iron Maidens Seventh Son of Seventh Son back in 1988.

Just like why Muse have played their new album from start to finish in their latest tour and then played other tracks after it. I suspect the same will apply to Bloc Party when touring their album next year which is a concept album based around a weekend hence the name 'A Weekend In The City'.
