The whole team did well last night, but I just wanted to make a separate post to highlight the performances of Jamie Vardy.

He was absolutely brilliant last night and gave the Derby defence a really tough time. He's been doing well this season and just wasn't scoring enough, but now the goals seem to be coming more for him too.

I'm one of, I think, many on here who wrote him off after last season really. I wondered why we'd wasted our money on him and the jump in divisions just seemed too big for him to handle. At the start of the season, I thought Wood and Nuge should be our first choice strikers and was worried about Vardy being our backup.

But what a turnaround it's been from him! Fantastic last night, seems to have formed a good partnership with Nugent, and he's capable of some very good finishes and touches, which have come on a long way since last year, and added those to his pace and high work-rate.

Jamie Vardy - pleased to say I was wrong! Keep going! :038:

Bravo. Testament to pearsons faith in certain players. Drink water, Vardy, James, Dyer were all um'd and ah'd about by lots of us when we went down the route of ffp this year. Goes to show what a bit of faith and continuity can do. After all - non of these players are the most expensive in the league, on the highest wages or the most flashy.
Vardy's progression is a good metaphor for the job the owners and Pearsons team have done to restructure the club and move away from the Charlie large tag we had under Erikksen.

Vardy admitted he wasn't fit enough last season and put a hell of a lot of fitness work in during the summer to bring him up to the required level, shows maturity and commitment which is probably one of the factors that NP liked about him even when it wasn't going well last season. I though he was a absolute waste of money last season and I'm happy to be proved wrong.

A true lesson in where motivation and persistence can take you. Whilst 90% of the Championship strikers were getting pissed on holiday during pre-season, Vardy was in the gym and out improving his game.

Absolutely fantastic, hats off to Vardy and Nige.

Worth every penny at this rate

Looking at him last night, he seemed to be really enjoying himself, he has undoubtedly worked hard on his fitness, and his confidence is sky high, he and many of us on this forum now believe he belongs at this level. If and I repeat if we get promoted, the next question will be can he hack it in one of the most skillful and toughest leagues anywhere.

no, Prem has the best teams on average. Vardy will have tough challenges week after week...

Bundesliga is a close second

Based on what? It's certainly not the most competitive, it doesn't have the best 3 or 4 players in the world and it doesn't produce the most champions league winners. It's a good division but I've yet to see anyone give a convincing argument why it is the best beyond the constant marketing that says it is.

A Wednesday fan seems to think that he's called a day on his boozing and antics in Sheffield over the Summer. Whilst never a troublemaker and he hung with a decent set of people but it was hardly professional. Apparently him and Pearson get on very well. NP told him to get his head down.

Noticeable last night how good his first touch was. Which is the weakest part of his game.
