All of this talk is making me feel more bitter than I have ever wanted to feel about football. Eleven over paid men running around a pitch kicking a ball around takes up so much of my energy and effort and I can't for the life of me understand why anymore.

I think I have lost all clarity and understanding of what the whole thing is about, or at least that was what I was thinking until I saw a short feature on the news. It related to kids with terminal illnesses and serious physical disabilities. They met up at an activity centre to enjoy what they could in life out of the very poor hand they have been dealt. Anyway, to the point, some Spurs players turned up to kick a ball around and meet these kids, and suddenly watching this it all made sense to me. Some of these kids didn't have much by way of quality of life, or in some instances much of a life left, but seeing their heros made their eyes light up. They were smiling and laughing and talking with people who really meant something to them, and for a little while the problems that they had were gone.

I watched this with tears in my eyes because it was sobering and put things into a great deal of perspect. What is the point in getting so upset about a game, what is the point in worrying about league positions, relegation battles, or whether or not a manager is doing his best. Who really cares!!!!! I am willing to bet that so many of us are truely lucky with what we have, clothes on our backs, air in our lungs, the love of family and friends, health, a roof over our heads and food to eat, kids of our own who lead full and happy childhoods...

so when things don't always go well with regard to eleven overpaid blokes kicking a ball around, and you feel that you are getting frustrated and you want to shout out in anger...stop for one moment, why expend all this energy on something so unimportant.

I don't know stevo.:icon_lol: I guess it depends on the level of obsession. Just so long as there is some degree of clarity in your thought. Never once when I left the ground has someone died, the sky fallen in, or the world come to an end...for some funny reason life went on:icon_lol:

I guess I have just been so negative lately, and it seems to stem from a silly old game, and it made me feel like a bit of a sad git. Seeing those kids so happy at seeing thier heros put some things into perspective. That is what football is (or should be about), whether we win or lose its should be about putting something back into the community. It made those kids happy and to me that seemed like the only time those players earned their money...it was the only real contribution of any measurable success, perhaps more important than anything thay have ever achieved on a pitch. They made some kids with nothing, and little left of their lives smile and for a moment forget their troubles.

That has happened to me and my posse once. I went to a Rugby game at Richmond and they were playing Coventry. As we went to the car to start the evening's drinking an old bloke had a heart attack in front of us and Geoff who was trained in this sort of stuff did his best but the bloke was 6 foot under by the time the Ambulance came. :icon_conf :icon_sad: :frown:

He was old. Sorry to see him go but he had had an innings and by his age it was too late to start. However not the best way for any of us to start a Saturday evening off. ;)

Yet you never learned your lesson because you still go to organised sporting events, where dissapointment is guaranteed!:018:

Football used to be the be-all and end-all for me.It still is very important but no way as much as it used to be.
My dad has been in hospital for 10 weeks after having an operation to remove Cancer from the stomach. I am still passionate about football, but my dad's illness has really put things into perspective for me.

pds I know what that is like - I lost both parents to cancer and that certainly put alot of things into perspective for me... footie is great, dont get me wrong, but there are a lot of other things far more important in life like family, health etc.

My grandson is currently very despondent about the fortunes of our team and towards the end of last season was even reluctant to come and watch because he hated us losing.

On Tuesday though he was part of the Highfield Rangers teams that played at half time. He was the most excited boy (along with 13 others) in the stadium to be playing on his team's pitch in front of 20 000+ fans.

We of course were the proudest grandparents in the stadium. He knows he is not a gifted footballer but he does try hard.

Why cannot ALL our players (Dublin, Tiatto and one or two others excepted) show the same passion to play in front of our fans?

Is it really just a job to some of them now?

I get really pissed off when we lose for about 10 minutes after the final whistle but thats it then, there are much much more important things than getting down because of those useless bunch of Tossers.

I lost both my parents in a similar fashion, and it does give a different slant when watching/worrying about 22 blokes hoofing a football about. I must admit, as I travel home & away with the London Branch, the day is also a social day out, meeting friends who you may not have seen for months, and having something of a beano. On the train up to any game, even though we are fervent supporters, we rarely talk about the game, we are busy catching up with gossip, etc. The same goes for the train home, ten minutes about the game, then get the cards and tinnies out. There are more important things in life, but I will still keep watching the City no matter what league they are in, and however bad they are. I think I had better send for the men in the white coats!:icon_lol:

Thought it was just me,the yellow wink's vanished..

Webbo always said the short list to the right of the post window would reflect the most popualr smilies, maybe he has now activated the feature. If so it should turn out to be better, as the eye rolling smilie used to be a popular one but nobody could be bothered to open the long list to use it.
