Leicester City have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of Arsenal's Kerrea Gilbert on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old promising full-back has become manager Nigel Pearson's fifth signing of the summer following Michael Morrison, Lloyd Dyer, Nicky Adams and Aleksandar Tunchev to the Walkers Stadium.

And Gilbert is relishing the chance to work with Pearson again.

He said: "I'm delighted to be here and would like to thank the manager for giving me the chance to impress and play regular first-team football.

"I have worked with the gaffer before at England Youth level and have got nothing but praise for him.

"He is always prepared to give you a chance and I am determined not to let him down. I also know Levi Porter and he has been impressed with the work ethic the new manager has brought to the club.

"I am excited to be here. The facilities are of Premier League quality and I am keen to get started and help Leicester City bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking."

Pearson added: "I have worked with Kerrea before and he is a fighter and a winner.

He is strong in the tackle and athletic and we will only benefit from his arrival.

"I am looking forward to working with him on the training ground."

After progressing through the youth ranks at the Premier League club, the Hammersmith-born defender made his first-team debut on November 29, 2005 against Reading in the League Cup and on December 7, he played in a UEFA Champions League match against Ajax, coming on as a substitute at left-back for the injured Lauren.

Gilbert started the Gunners' FA Cup win over Cardiff City in January, 2006 which was the start of a six-match run of appearances before making his Premier League debut on January 21, 2006 at Everton.

Gilbert joined Championship outfit Cardiff City for the entire 2006-07 campaign and went on to make 26 appearances for the Bluebirds, as they narrowly missed out on the Play-offs.

Southend United was Gilbert's next port of call as he put pen-to-paper on a six-month loan deal on July 30 last year.
He made six appearances before returning in January.

After switching back to Arsenal, he was an unused substitute in their game against Blackburn Rovers in February.

He has worked with Pearson before so this could turn out to be a great signing, playing for Arsenal first team and movingo to League 1 Leicester, he has to have some good expierence, looking forward to see him put on the LCFC Shirt

Love your entusiasm Spanky but not sure I get your logic on that one

He only played two league games for Arsenal, the last time was over two years ago.

The fact that they're letting him go for another year suggests they've given up on him and just want to get him out of the way.

His last competitive game was for Southend last September, before being dropped for being rubbish.

Maybe he'll do better at Leicester, but it would be stupid to expect him to be Premiership quality.

Right back isn't he?

Guess Pearson doesn't rate James Chambers much then.

Except that Chambers can also play at left back - a position which, when Mattock is sold, we currently have no one to play in

You'll probably find that he's the best thing since sliced bread at first. He will slowly go mouldy as the season progresses though. And lock up your daughters.

Yea, goes along with theory we have to have somebody playing out of position at all times too.

Well I'm sold.
