Just to clarify, Jorrin John didn't even play. I know the LCFC website says he came on for Campbell, but he quite clearly did not. The player announced as John was in fact Adi Yussuf.

The stadium announcer was a twat. He began by pronouncing four City players' names wrong, then announced King's Lynn's first goalscorer as Gareth Sheldon, when in fact it was the much, much, much slimmer Mathew Birley. He continued by calling out John's name instead of Yussuf as the sub for DJ, causing the real sub some confusion - he thought he'd come on in error. He then announced John as the first scorer for City, who of course was on the bench throughout. The second goal he credited to Sappleton, but it appeared to have been scored by Hicks. The third he actually got right - Sappleton definitely scored the third, but then to get that one wrong he'd have to have been outside the stadium and looking the other way.

Late Burst Seals Win
Posted on: Sat 18 Jul 2009

A City X1 turned a half-time deficit into a 3-1 victory against Kings Lynn at The Walks ground this afternoon.

Once again, the substitutions by Reserve team manager Gerry Taggart (pictured) worked a treat as the two strikers he put on, Ricky Sappleton, with a double, and Jorrins John, did the damage.

The home side, who included ex-City men Joe Magunda and Andy Johnson and former Hinckley Unted players Callum Lloyd and Owen Story, started brightly but two useful efforts from Johnny Hayes and Billy Kee needed to be dealt with.

However, the visitors fell behind in the 21st minute when a cross from the left was turned home by striker Mathew Birley.

City responded with a Billy Kee glancing header onto the post from a James Wesolowski corner and in the last minute of the first half, another Kee header flew inches off target.

The front pairing of DJ Campbell, in his first pre-season outing, and Kee were replaced respectively by John at the break and Sappleton later while the attack was also spiced up by Levi Porter replacing Rob Douglas, Hayes switching to the right. In midfield, Nathan Hicks replaced Aman Verma.

City looked a lot better and soon after the break a Lathaniel Rowe-Turner header was cleared off the line. Hayes had a good shot saved and was then denied a penalty when clearly felled in the area as the visitors took command.

But they left it late. In the 76th minute a fine move involving a Sappleton knock-down and a touch by Craig King, on for Hayes, saw John blast home the equaliser and two minutes later, Sappleton pounced on a defensive blunder to give City the lead.

And a minute from the end, Porter sent Sappleton through the middle for City's third to round off a fine afternoon's work.

Taggart was satisfied in the end but admitted: "I wasn't pleased with the first half but in the last 15 minutes or so we were knocking the ball around like I wanted them to do all game.

"After the break, we knocked it around a bit better and you have got to remember there were a lot of young lads out there who had never played against men before and it is difficult for them but they are learning and they showed the character and battling qualities.

"I would have been quite happy with the performance if we had come off still one-nil down because by the end I had seen them produce what I wanted from them in what is, at this stage, a training exercise."

Striker DJ Campbell tasted his first pre-season action and Taggart said "He has been training for the last couple of weeks and this was his first run out and I thought he looked quite sharp to be honest."

City X1 4-4-2 Cisak; Milnes, Boulger, Parkes, Rowe-Turner, Douglas, Verma, Wesolowski, Hayes, Campbell, Kee. Subs: C King (67 for Hayes), Hicks (45 for Verma), Yussef, John (45 for Campbell), Sappleton (67 for Kee), Porter (45 for Douglas), Ambrusics.

Having seen this Sheldon from Tamworth last season...how the feck did the announcer not notice the difference? The guy's the size of a truck.

He is the fattest footballer I've ever seen in my life. I couldn't believe how round he was. Fair play to him though, he lasted about an hour and didn't look too bad. I reckon he'd be a very good player if he laid off the pies a bit.
