My fiancée has had a Dell Inspiron 1525 for about 18 months, and is having a problem charging the battery. It works fine with the power cord attached, but it doesn't charge at all. When I hover over the battery icon in the bottom right corner, it says "21% Available (plugged in, not charging)".

Apparently, this is quite a common problem for Dell's, but does anyone have any Idea how I can make it work without having to make any expensive replacements?

Ta much

None. This is a Dell Achilles Heel as my battery went and so does most Dell users. You will have to buy a replacement if you want portability. A tip is to buy a spare when buying the laptop. :icon_wink

Have you tried removing the battery for a period of time and trying again?

Does the 21% value decrease over time or always stay at 21%?

Does the laptop actually still run when disconnected from the mains? If so for how long?

I only noticed it this morning. It's stayed at 21% since I noticed. It runs unplugged, but will only do so until the battery depletes.

I've read somewhere else that it's a problem with Vista.

You may find theres actually nothing wrong with the battery, it may work as it was doing but the software isnt noticing it being charged etc.

Have you tried turning the plug switch on?
