The Academy lads managed to win against a previously unbeaten Arsenal. :icon_bigg From the OS.

Leicester City U18s 4 Arsenal U18s 2

Posted on: Sun 13 Sep 2009

Leicester City's Under-18s side overcame Arsenal's Under-18s 4-2 in a pulsating encounter at Belvoir Drive on Saturday morning.

Jon Rudkin's young charges now have four wins out of four, having made a superb start to the season with wins over Sunderland, Liverpool, Norwich and now Arsenal.

Two goals from Cian Bolger and one from Elliot Chamberlain left the Foxes 3-0 ahead at the interval. However, the young Gunners fought back during the second half and Steve Bould's men pulled it back to 3-2 with goals from Luke Freeman and Cedric Evina.

With less than twenty minutes remaining and nerves rising, Adi Yussef produced the goods to seal a well-earned 4-2 victory for City.

Academy Manager, Jon Rudkin, said: "This was a really pleasing result for us. The game was very exciting, with some outstanding interchanges of play demonstrated by both teams. I'm delighted for the lads and look forward to the next game away at Charlton Athletic on Saturday."

City team: Ambrusics, Moore, Taft, Milnes, Bolger, Parkes, John, King, Chamberlain, Yussef, Schlupp.

Arsenal team: McDermott, Byles, Brislen-Hall, Meade, Obed, Boateng, Ozyakup, Aneke, Afobe, Freeman, Evina.

I hear that Tony Adams was amongst the spectators.

Was going to post a thread about our academy but this one would do nicely. Why is it that we can thump the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal etc, win the Youth Premier League or whatever it is, go to America to compete in stupidly named stadiums, yet can't seem to have any decent youngsters coming through our ranks. The last player to come through our academy to actually be a top player was Emile Heskey. Mattock and Stearman could turn out to be pretty decent players though. Billy Kee looks quite promising as well, but could well go the way of Louis Dodds, Stephen Dawson et al.

Matt Piper looked extremely promising until his injury.

To be fair, this seems to afflict most clubs. West Ham, Man City and Middlesbrough are the only ones who seem to have brought more than the odd player through in the last decade or so, though there could be non-Prem ones I am unaware of - Palace or Ipswich, maybe. Perhaps most of these kids simply don't have the mental toughness required to make it at pro level. Whatever, I don't think our academy has a noticeably worse record than most others, but nor is it better.

i think our academy is much better than most

what have we had in the last 10 years?
Stearman £1.5m
Mattock £1m
Piper £3.5m

not to be sniffed at really is it?
