for me there are only 2 decisions to make team selection wise and they are left back, stick with Chilwell or bring Fuchs back and striker, reward Musa with a start or bring in Vardy, assuming he is over that virus, personally I'd leave Chilwell in and give Musa a start

Schmeichel

Simpson Morgan Huth Chilwell

Mendy Drinkwater NDidi

Albrighton Musa Gray

I think Fuchs will be back.

I hate to be too critical because Chilwell is a decent player but he was beaten a little too easily (for my liking) for Everton's goal. Fuchs would have up-ended the guy and given away a free kick!

No, not entirely but something like. He did nothing wrong and is still on a learning curve . He needs recharge & reflection time. He has a bright future ahead of him but needs the progress to be managed. No need to rush it.

Vardy will be back too, which is kind of harsh on Musa. But I think he will get a run should circumstances dictate/allow. Before Everton, we were asking why he'd been signed. We know now but, again, expectation needs to be managed. Slowly, slowly is Claudio's mantra.

Chelsea's a tough game. Claudio will want experienced heads to start.

I think we will see a similar tactic to that used against Everton on Saturday.

We will try and stop them with potentially Vardy on the break as our threat.

City 3 Chelsea 2
Sharkey 2, Roberts

You only saw a few minutes of the 90+ against Everton, not really sure how you can judge a player's performance from that. I heard from those that went that he had another great game.

Chilwell had a great game yet again against Everton. But against Chelsea he'll be potentially up against Moses, who completely ripped him a new one in the cup game.

Fuchs to start.

Musa Vardy Gray up front if we change from our traditional 442 home formation. Its avery tough game and point would be seen as good but this is against a team that could under estimate us, if they do we can nick this 3-2 Vardy2 Gray

And I quite clearly referred only to one incident, one incident that occurred in the 20 minutes that I saw. Nowhere did I suggest I was critiquing his match performance.

20 minutes. Well found. I couldn't find that much of the game to watch.

I don't find Vardy all that effective up front by himself, and Chelsea are a very, very tough team to score against.

Very difficult game but think we need to go 4-3-3 with Musa and Gray, if we don't do our usual 4-4-2.

Strange as I think the opposite. I think both Vardy and Slimani are best as lone strikers.

Despite the repeated claims that we played 4-4-2 last season, we hardly ever did. Ranieri said it was 4-2-3-1 and I agree.

your avatar is all the proof you need of him as a lone striker

Whoever's up front, the important thing is to give him/them decent balls.

Indeed.

The key will be if CR selects Ndidi and DD it is no coincidence that DD is more confident with a decent midfielder covering him, this will allow him to link up with Vardy who will run the channels.
Chelsea have a sow defence and there CD is a lunatic at times

Only one change, Musa for Ulloa. Vardy on the bench. Musa deserves a start up-front after last week.

The difference being that last season he generally had Okazaki there with him. Alright a lot of the time yes Okazaki drops deeper and Vardy is effectively playing up top on his own. But in Shinji he has someone else to make runs, occupy defenders etc.

If you don't play Shinji or another striker and just go 5 in midfield with Vardy up front by himself, then the problem we've got is that nobody is making runs from midfield. We don't have an attacking central midfielder to get up and join the attacks. It makes a very difficult job for Vardy. Particularly when Chelsea have such a strong defence, and they've got 3 centre backs who only have 1 striker to worry about.

I think if it's more of a 4-3-3 with Musa and Gray playing wide and higher up the pitch, then at least you've got players that will stretch their defence a bit. But if you're playing 4-5-1, particularly with Albrighton on one of the wings, then that won't happen.
