Dancing Queen
Why oh why could I have not found out who sang this song before I got into it and liked it :102:

I thought it was a bird, but now I find out it's a 7 year old "Sk8r" brat. What the f*ck can a "Sk8r" brat sing about that I might be remotely interested in. (I exaggerated with the 7)

Now I like the song, I feel I would be doing it an injustice to dislike it. If I had known first I could have avoided it at all costs.

Dilemma

I like the song and cant help its by a 16 year old who looks like a seven year old aswell. Its came from a reality show and thats not worthy. At least, he wrote himself.
All credit to him then because it's a bloody good tune.

What reality show was it? If it was one of them "ooh, I've just wrote a song" moments like Peter Andre, then I am a tad dubious

Rock School starting Gene Simmons trying to make a class of Lowestowe (sp?) kids into a band, he turned up with a written song one day and sang with a guitar on his own.

Hes a talented lad, can play guitar and drums. On the show, he was easily the stand-out.

He also read his first gig is going to be some toilet venue in Glasgow, King Tuts. Seen the video, MF? The drummer is going crazy on his set, hitting everything and simply doesnt work as the song only has a simple beat.

Lowestoft.

Enough to put me off then, he's there because of tele and not musical ability

Part and part really, hes generally making a go of it and trying build up a following. Hes a really good musician. I dont know if any of the Channel 4 boffins introduced him to a record company but he worked with 2 producers whilst making the thing.

I have seen the gigs he's lined up to do and already done. And its not arenas or halls, its 'Barflys' and 'Academies', so he's/the record company are putting in front of toughish crowds.

He may be talented and he may have good following, I don't doubt that as the record is very good.

But I believe there is an art in playing the clubs, building foundations and working up through the ranks to provide you with a nice platform to launch your career.

Todays music seems to be more about marketability than actual ability. I know this process has existed in the music business since the beginning, but it seems that it is more the norm now and it's wrong. I'd like to see a return to traditional values. Earn your rewards FFS

I know what you mean MF.

Take two bands for example, The Kooks And McFly. Now the pair dont sound too dis-similar to each other in their ballards. But I only have respect for one of them, The Kooks because they spent a year in support slots playing toilet seat venues. McFly instead used children morning programmes and daytime tv shows to their advantage. Both have fanbases but only of them as any credibility. The Kooks have been lucky because ''indie'' has somewhat taken off and indie records are now common in the album charts.

There are tons of bands out there with the same amount of musician level as the company-assisted bands but because they have had a ''lift'' through reality tv or a nice record company taking them on because they are handsome looking boys, they probably never make it.

Any music best viewed before mass hysteria and making the ''breakthrough''
