Not the most promising start to the season, 78-4 against the students :icon_roll

New, Allenby, Dippy and Cobb all gone cheaply with Ackerman 42*. Familiar story....

Bowling looks really light with Wyatt and Buck making first-class debuts. Carl Crowe and Wayne White are both playing - does this mean they have signed contracts?

Having watched a couple of hours, it just reminded me that Ackerman is in a totally different class to the rest of the batting.

You can see that he is still has an excellent technique and is driven to make runs - being officially a first class fixture it counts towards his average of course - he reminds me of former county greats e.g. Willie Watson (left hander of course) in that irrespective of the conditions, he can shape an innings.

It's very early to form a judgement about the overall prospects for the season, but I think it's probably one to enjoy the cricket and fresh air rather than anticipate much competitive success.

I hope you are right, the signs aren't great from action to date :icon_conf

As I guess you realise, the point I was making was that mid-April isn't an appropriate time to right off the season!

But, no the signs are not at all promising unfortunately. It looks like one of those situations where we will be relying too much for our own good on 2 or 3 ageing established senior players and hoping that the young, inexperienced players continue to progress rapidly. Again, unfortunately, cricket tends not to be like that - we can't assume that the young batters will make consistent progress season-on-season.
