Relax everyone! We've signed a defender!

Leicester City’s Development Squad has been bolstered by the arrival of talented young defender Louis Rowley from Manchester United on a one-year deal.
The 19-year-old becomes the second arrival from Old Trafford this summer after the signing of striker Jack Barmby in May, and could make his debut as early as Monday, when Steve Beaglehole’s side kick-off their pre-season away at Loughborough Dynamo.

Rowley is a versatile defender who came through the youth ranks operating at left-back, but last season went on to put in some excellent displays for United’s Under-21s in a new central midfield role.

As well as impressing at Under-18s and Under-21s level domestically, the youngster has represented the Red Devils with distinction in the UEFA Youth League too – making his debut in a 4-3 win over Bayer Leverkusen in September last year.

Born in Nuneaton and previously on the books at Walsall before joining Manchester United as a 15-year-old, Rowley’s appearances last season were limited slightly by injury, but he did force his way into the team with an impressive run of form in latter stages of the season.

A strong, aggressive player, blessed with a great engine and appetite for a tackle, Rowley will undoubtedly add some quality to an already strong Development Squad at King Power Stadium in time for the new Barclays U21 Premier League season.

With a surname like that he best be good.

man u are our feeder club

There may be some truth in this. Rowley may have heard positive things from our ex-Man U players. Man U are only interested in keeping players that will get them into Europe and be capable of Champions League football. Our ambitions are, perhaps, less elevated.

We seem to be taking the Development Squad seriously which is a good thing. The turnover of managers is so frequent that managers have little incentive to plan for two or three seasons ahead. It would be interesting to know whether the signing of Rowley and the other youngsters was prompted by Nigel Pearson or by Terry Robinson. If it is Nigel then this suggests he feels secure enough to be planning for future seasons.
