Low willing to help solve Tosh's selection dilemma

Sep 21 2006

Mark Bloom, South Wales Echo

Former Cardiff City midfielder Josh Low has launched a come-and- get-me plea to Wales boss John Toshack ahead of the squad announcement on Monday for the 2008 European Qualifiers next month against Slovakia and Cyprus.

Toshack has a selection problem for the double headers on October 7 and 11, both at the Millennium Stadium. Some players are injured and others under consideration are not playing regular first- team football.

Low, 27, who played for Wales at under-21 level believes there is no time like the present to stake a claim for senior international duty.

Now playing in the Coca Cola Championship for Leicester City, Low said: 'Everything is going well for me and I'm playing at the highest standard I've played in my career and enjoying every minute of it.

'When I played for the under-21s with the likes of Danny Gabbidon, Robert Earnshaw and Rhys Weston it was always my ambition to follow them into the seniors.

'That never materialised, but now I'm in the best position I've been in at any time in my career and probably playing the best football. My wife and kids were born in Cardiff and we've watched Wales at the Millennium Stadium. It would be a dream come true to be part of what John Toshack is trying to achieve.'

If he was better, he might not need to "plea"

I dont mind this guy. Granted he aint the most talented player in the world but he works hard and does something that few other players do at the club - puts crosses in.

Fancy him to get a few goals too when he actually gets off the mark.

Is that all it takes to qualify to play for Wales??? :icon_lol:

To be fair I think some players have played a lot worse then Low and arent facing any stick!

Hume for example, who looked crap against Hereford!!!

I think Low has been one of our best players this season.

I don't think anyone deserves to be called a "best" player so far this season, our "better" players have all been in poor form. Fryatt, Hume, Stearman, McCarthy etc who were all very good last season have had average seasons so far, average at best.

The only player I can think of who has performed like they did last season is Kisnorbo.

Harsh to criticise McCarthy we have defended well enough, more clean sheets than we expected, i think the defence has been good enough for this league.
