For those travelling to the Forest game by road from the South, be aware that the M1 is closed from Friday evening through to Sunday lunchtime at J19/20 whilst the old M6 bridge is demolished.

There are diversions in place but it will add some extra time to your journey to Nottingham (and home), so allow extra time to get there and don't expect to be home that early either.

Northbound traffic will be diverted off the M1 at junction 19 onto the M6 to junction 2 and then north on the M69 to rejoin the M1 at junction 21.

Southbound traffic will be signposted off the M1 at junction 21 onto the M69, A46, A45 and M45 to rejoin the M1 at Junction 17. The M1 southbound will remain open all the way down to junction 19 for A14 eastbound, M6 westbound and local traffic.

I think I'd be leaving the M1 at J18 and then taking the A5 and A426 to rejoin the M1 at J20 (Lutterworth). And doubly so in reverse on the way back.

Whereas I would simply use the A5 all the way to Lutterworth and then a similar route on the way back.

What about M11 > A14 > A1(M) > A52

Coming in from the East towards West Bridgford be possibly less busy than from the West.

I was referring to my preferred option for avoiding the M1 diversion and not thinking of the choices for a whole journey from east Kent. If I were to be going to the game, I would be going by train. If I were going by car, the M11 is the last road I would choose as part of my route.
