Jaguar won't be stadium sponsor

A football club's new stadium will not now be called the Jaguar Arena because of the "rapid deterioration" in the luxury car maker's business situation, it has emerged.

A five-year deal, reputed to be worth between £5 million and £7 million, was signed with Coventry City to sponsor the 32,000 seat stadium.

The Coca-Cola Championship side will move from their current home at Highfield Road at the start of the 2005-2006 season.

But the company has announced they would no longer be the "naming sponsor" of the stadium, although their involvement will continue as backers of the adjoining exhibition halls at the £113 million leisure complex.

How is it that cov, a much smaller club than ourselfs managed to command a fee of between £5-£7 Million for 5 years, half the time of the current Leicester deal with wlakers which they got for a tidy 1 Million!

Really does show why it was that this club went into admin, when a crappy club like Cov can get a minimum of 5 time the amount for half the term we did!

On a slightly unrelated point, I suspect that someone may be bankrollng our club. It seems whenever we need a bit of cashw e alway get it from 'somewhere' for example getting CL cost us a packet with paying Herts off and all, and then getting a Keeper (Taylor) Does make you wonder - and hope! Although whoever this mystery man is (I suspect martin George) hes keeping himself quite!

Agree on your main point (although the Cov deal falling through doesn't help the case) which is why we have spoken the club about the Walkers deal which now much be worth a much better deal if the Tigers 'value' is now included as well.

We can't blame the current board for the deal with Walkers, but this does give them the chance to re-negotiate better terms.

Nobody is bank rolling the club, certainly not Martin George who isn't a director now, we are awaiting the latest set of information from companies before we can confirm if he is still a shareholder or not.

The club financing Craig in/ Micky & team out will be partly based on the belief that attendances will rise, they have increased since the change, although its hard to tell how much of that is due to 'deals' on games like kids for a quid & £15 for members.

Someone at the club is clearly lending money. Directors of companies do it regularly if they are guaranteed to get there cash back. The club is obviously in no position to borrow from an independent source. Suggestions that over half the wage bill is made up of only four players pay (who will all be out of contract come the summer) would be a good guarantee against any cash lent but would eat into next years budget. Should be interesting to see what happens during the summer, exciting times :D

Going back to The Foxes Trust point that the club will be partly financing the change in manager with the anticipated additional revenue from an increase in attendances, surely the board will have budgeted the whole season on a guestimated average attendance over the season, and bearing in mind we were the pre season favourites and expecting to be in the thick of the promotion shake up, I would have envisaged the club budgetting for attendances considerably higher than the 22 - 23000 crowds we have been getting, therefore IMO we will already be considerably over budget.

There is either a contingency plan in place ie use up some of the budgetted profits (remember we made a substantial profit last season) to assist in covering the costs of changing manager, and also to help provide some immediate transfer funds to CL.

Or we do have somebody bankrolling us and assisting in the short term to enable CL to have some transfer funds available to begin the rebuilding job.

Or finally maybe a couple of deals have already been agreed in January for a couple of our players and it is this money that has been made available to CL.

Also remember last season, when MA stated in early season that he had spent his entire transfer budget in the summer and then we went out and somehow managed to sign 4 or 5 players in the January, maybe the club operates with 2 budgets which does allow flexibility and additional funds to be released to the manager in January if deemed appropriate, I would not be surprised to see CL bring in 3 - 4 new players to the club over te next month or so, I also think a few could be shipped out now that CL has had some time to assess the strengths and weaknesses of his current squad.

Possibly, but the problem seems to be that nobody wants our 'deadwood' not even for nothing. We have accumalated some very very average ageing players over the past 5/6 years and now we can't get rid of them until their contract run out.MA did well in getting rid of a lot last summer, yes he then proceeded to bring in older players but the ones he did bring in he only gave 1 year contracts to so CL should be able to get rid of who he wants in the Summer.I just wish the board would give him some finance now,no matter how small ,surely they could fund £300,000-£500,000?

I have stated somewhere else, can't remember which thread now, but we are not being bankrolled...the Taylor deal has taken us over budget. No money I'm afraid, and any further expenditure will take us further over budget.

How much longer is left on Gemmills 3month contract extension? Can't see his contract getting renewed. I think that money could be better spent.
