i can see why this happened, but its disgraceful. I have loads of pics of me in school plays as a kid.
A Leicestershire father said he was shocked when a policeman stopped him taking photos of his five-year-old daughter in her school nativity play.
The officer told Lee Ingram to stop filming at Imperial Avenue Infant School in Braunstone after the head teacher told him it was not allowed.
The school said parents could take photos later, but not during the play.
Leicester City Council said photography policies were part of its child protection measures.
Mr Ingram said: "I went with intentions to take photos, was told by the headmistress that you can't take photos and three police officers were there.
"And one of the officers came over and stopped me from taking photos of my daughter in the play."
For three years he had observed the ban at his daughter Ella's school, but then decided it made no sense.
"Basically you want these memories on film and you want photos as well and I just woke to it and I just said, 'I'm not having this and I want to challenge the rules here'.
"I want to be able to take photos of my child and film my child in these plays."
Leicester City Council said the restrictions were not driven by a fear of paedophiles, but were about protecting the identities of children who might be adopted or fostered or might be the subject of a court order. "For many schools the choice is preventing parents from taking photographs or preventing children from taking part," the statement added.
