Whilst I have no reason to doubt RN Fox's statement that Mike Newell will be the next Leicester City Manager, but based on the events of this week regarding Steve Cotterill and Billy Davies, I do remain cautious as to whether this deal to secure Newell's services will be concluded in our favour.

If this move is unsuccessful, what I dont want to happen is for Leicester to move onto their 4th, 5th or possibly even 6th choice of manager in an attempt to secure a permanent manager. I would prefer for the board to appoint Rob Kelly until the end of the season and reevaluate the options available at the end of the season, when maybe the likes of Cotterill, Newell and Davies would be more prepared to accept the position, I fear that if we are unable to appoint Newell the board may well panic and make a rash appointment such as Gudjon Thordason.

I do not believe we can afford to settle for mediocrity, and in Rob Kelly we have somebody who can steer the club to safety whilst the club takes it's time too appoint the right manager, similar to Gordon Lee when Pleat was sacked, in the summer we made the right appointment in Brian Little.

Hopefully this scenario will not be an option because Newell will accept our offer, but if the timing is wrong then I implore the board to be paitent and wait until the summer.

Decent post that, well done mate. I agree wholeheartedly - any rash decisions now could be the end.

Well said.. the comparison with Pleat/Gordon Lee is a good one... Trouble is Kelly has less games to play with than Lee did and MORE relegation slots to avoid as well...

I think he can do it though :icon_bigg

There is a lot of volatility in the managerial market at the moment.
The England and Newcastle vacancies will create movement all the way down "the food chain" of football management.

The likes of Newell will be looking at vacancies that may come up at Bolton and Birmingham - the same will be true of Martin Allen possibly at Charlton and any other combination you may like to mention.

I think we may have no choice other than to wait until these moves have unraveled as the managers we're targeting may well be doing just that and bidieng their time....

I agree, but I also believe Kelly has a better squad to work with and if he can get the right attitude and mentality out of the players, as was demonstrated on tuesday night at QPR then we should survive comfortably. We need to go on a run of decent results, the next 5 or 6 games are key, if we can pick up 3 or 4 wins along the way then it should take us far enough away to then be able to push on for mid table safety, however if we struggle to pick up points over that period then it will be a scrap to the bitter end.

I'd narrow it down to the next 3 games that are the most important. Wolves could go any way, but after that we have two struggling teams in Brighton and Derby. If we deserve to stay up, we need to condemn them both to lower positions than ourselves. Preperation right now is crucial.

This is the start of the end of Mike Newell at Luton IMO, he has specifically been asked about the Leicester vacancy, he admits he has been approached and yet he refuses to rule himself out, surely if he been contacted and didnt want the job he would come straight out and say it.

Exactly, just like Cotterill. IMO Burnley priced him out of a move.

And according to that article... if he does join us and do well.. and the Liverpool job comes up.. He's OFF! :icon_roll

I think the Cotterill scenario was very similar to MON and the Leeds vacancy, Barry Kilby knew Cotterill would not quit because of his past history and therefore refused to allow Cotterill to speak to Leicester, thus forcing SC to stay. IMO I wouldnt be surprised to see Cotterill leave Burnley over the next 6 - 12 months, I think the damage is done as regards his relationship with his chairman.

so what, it happens everytime we get a half good manager, but if he comes and Livershite want him, that means he will have turned us around otherwise they would not be interested. I also doubt they would look at another manager with less than premiership experience

yep that was my point. If he comes and is successful, he earns the right to go to a massive club, and nobody would begrudge him that opportunity either.
