Alan Maybury (Hearts)
Born: 8/8/78 Caps: 9 Goals: 0
First cap: v Czech Republic 25/03/98 Last cap: v Cyprus 04/09/04

Alan Maybury burst onto the scene as a teenager with Leeds United where, as part of David O'Leary's 'babies,' he helped the club rise to the top of the English and European football tree. International recognition soon followed and he made his debut at right back for Ireland alongside stars like Robbie Keane and Damien Duff against the Czech Republic in 1998. A second cap a year later though his inexperience meant that Denis Irwin, Stephen Carr, Steve Finnan and Jeff Kenna meant that his opportunities were largely restricted. Injuries then hampered his progress and in 2001, he opted to leave Leeds for Scottish side Hearts. His progress in Scotland has been spectacular and he is now considered one of the top defenders in the SPL while Brian Kerr ended his four year absence from the Ireland side by making him a squad regular in 2004.

I know we can't afford him...but wouldn't it be nice! 8) [/img]

I would not be to sure about not getting him, he is avaliable at the end of the season on a bosmon .

So we could get him early for a cut-price if CL wants to make sure no one else gets him.

We desperately need a right-back too & someone who isn't afraid to get forward.

Could be.

He would be a very good signing IMO. From what I have seen of him when he has deputised for Stephen Carr in the Ireland team, he has done very well. Gets forward well and I have never felt uncomfortable with him playing...he seems to be a confident good young player...trouble is that we just can't afford to sign anyone at the moment.

Just imagine this back line though

Maybury Stearman Sticks Tiatto

Would look very good IMO

If he is out of contract in the summer, then now is the time to try and snap him up for a nominal fee, especially as Hearts finanaces arent the greatest, they might be tempted to accept a fee now rather than lose him for nowt.

Plus the new manager, John Robertson, might welcome the funds for his squad building.

In which case go get him Mr. Levein...perhaps when we show Gemmill the door

I havn't really seen to much of Maybury. I did see him play for Leeds once in the Premier league a few seasons ago. He looked raw back then but certainly wasn't bad for his age.

Yeah I think a nominal fee now would be better, we wouldn't miss a few of our players to free up the wages. Perhaps they could take a few of our yougnsters on loan in return or have Gemmill.

Maybury would be an interesting signing IMO. He is 26 ish so not all that young but definitely worth a dabble.

Could be wrong but I thought Maybury was a left back,he played on the left yesterday anyway.

Every time I have seen him play for Ireland it has been on the right...if he can do both good for him + that would be another good reason to make a bid for him
