Alan Maybury (Hearts)
Born: 8/8/78 Caps: 9 Goals: 0
First cap: v Czech Republic 25/03/98 Last cap: v Cyprus 04/09/04
Alan Maybury burst onto the scene as a teenager with Leeds United where, as part of David O'Leary's 'babies,' he helped the club rise to the top of the English and European football tree. International recognition soon followed and he made his debut at right back for Ireland alongside stars like Robbie Keane and Damien Duff against the Czech Republic in 1998. A second cap a year later though his inexperience meant that Denis Irwin, Stephen Carr, Steve Finnan and Jeff Kenna meant that his opportunities were largely restricted. Injuries then hampered his progress and in 2001, he opted to leave Leeds for Scottish side Hearts. His progress in Scotland has been spectacular and he is now considered one of the top defenders in the SPL while Brian Kerr ended his four year absence from the Ireland side by making him a squad regular in 2004.
I know we can't afford him...but wouldn't it be nice! 8) [/img]
