.... He informs Albion that he wont be renewing his contract at the end of the season, just at around the same time we start interviews.

He must have been approached as this seems to have been a calculated gamble by Megson, either he would stay on till the end of season and take over in summer or has had happened it would bring things to a head and mean he would be sacked and can take over straight away.

He knew his time was nearly up at West Brom and must have seen Leicester as possibly the most attractive option outside the prem.

Also if I remember rightly Megson started his career at Sheff Wed under Howard Wilkinson, could he stay on as Asst Manager.

There is no way Megson would take such a risk without having something else lined up, he knew WBA would use this as an opportunity to get rid of him.

I expect a press conference at the Walkers in the near future to announce him as our new manager. Unless Mad Biker knows something different.

What went wrong at WBA for him. did he screw up

IMO had probabaly took them as far as he could, bearing in mind they were in relegation trouble in division one when he took over. Had suffered from some run ins with some of the players as well alledgedly, but the new chairman Jeremy Peace had never really got on there were rumours of unrest between them last season and I think this had undermined his position, but this is only my opinion.

I think this is more a case of Megson making his public his intention to leave before he was sacked/pushed. This way he gets compensation. I have a good idea who is on our managerial shortlist and unless its changed dramatically today, he aint on it.

Megson has a history of playing boring football, falling out with players and other people at the club, and failing in the Premiership. Do we really want another manager like that?

And there's always a danger he might want to sign Lee Marshall again (although he was one of the players he fell out with!)

I have just visited the WBA forum. From the comments wrote in the messages you would think ma had been managing them as well.

well said webby... sure, megson MAY get us up but if we're just gonna have another season like we had last season in the Prem under MA then what's the point in going up in the first place...
on the 'boring football' note however, we may as well play boring football and win 1-0 as play boring football and lose...

spot on - Gary Megson - Micky Adams mark 2 - but without th endearing personality.

This club needs a change from the footballing drabness of Bassett, Adams, Wilko!

I wish they'd get on with it - this is starting totake the piss!

True this decision needs to be the right one - but the sheer arrogance of the board with almost a "I'll do it in half n' hour" attitude is becoming worrying. Now im not saying we should rush anything but what I am saying this they should at least give us fans some news - i.e. when they expect to have the new manger in place etc...

I think the football in the last few matches under Bassett and Wilko has been much better than we've seen for a long time, and I'd have no problem if they were given until the end of the season.
I know they've not won a match yet, but at least we've seen some decent football, and I'm confident we'll start a winning run on Saturday.

How can the board tell us when they expect to have a manager in place if they don't know themselves?

They might interview all the candidates and decide none of them is suitable. They might offer the job to someone who turns it down.

If they come out now and tell us they'll appoint a new manager by the end of the week they'll look stupid if it doesn't work out that way.
If the board are pushed into making promises about when a new manager will be appointed they might feel under pressure to get someone in even if they're not 100% sure they have the right person. I'd rather they took their time and got it right.

Exactly what i think too Webbo'...

The exciting thing is that if old 'Arry and Wilko can get the team playing better football, then hopefully a new manager with more standing will be able to turn things around. I'm prepared to wait for him.

It's a bit like the Velvet Underground song "Waiting for the Man", that was worth waiting for too.

For me, 'Venus in Furs' is one of the best tunes ever...

I prefer his solo stuff really, you can't beat walk on the wild side.

Actually you can, in the game of 'Song Trumps' nothing beats 'Shuddupayourface' by the Italian cock.
