And we can't attract a Manager from a Club with a Stadium like that...maybe we are setting our sights to high, whats Corby Town's manager like?

Dream date is The Queen!

Name: Rob Dunion
Nationality: English

DoB: 1/5/61

Place Of Birth: Northampton

Previous Clubs: (as manager) Cottingham

Position: Manager

A local lad who originally joined Corby Town from schools football, Rob was the club's Youth Team Player of the Year in 1976/77 and was captain of both the youth team and reserve side at his elevation to the senior side in March, 1979. He was given his Southern League debut in the number eight shirt as a 17-year-old by Don Martin against Stourbridge at Occupation Road on Saturday, March 3rd and had a glancing header saved by the visiting goalkeeper, before being replaced by substitute Terry Duroe in the 78th minute of a 1-0 defeat.
Rob's second first team appearance was a 4-1 victory away to Milton Keynes - Corby's first league win for four months - and then he came on as a sub for player/manager Martin in a 3-0 home defeat by Kings Lynn.
After a spell out of the side he returned in midfield for 2-0 home defeats by Bedworth United on Saturday, April 21st and Wellingborough Town on Tuesday, April 24th and then travelled to Wales for games with Barry Town on the Friday night and Merthyr on the Saturday afternoon. He appeared for the full 90 minutes in both matches, which were lost 4-1 to Barry Town and 9-0 to Merthyr!
Rob ended the season on a high note , however, appearing as a substitute in a 5-1 away victory over Enderby Town and in the number four shirt in a goaless draw against Burton Albion in May.
Rob wore the number seven shirt in a 3-1 Southern League Cup defeat away to Enderby Town on the opening day of 1979/80 and then after being an unused sub in the return fixture at Occupation Road he appeared in home Southern League defeats at the hands of Banbury United and Stourbridge. He then had another long spell out of the team before returning to make his final three senior appearances later on in 1979/80.
In September, 1980 Rob was transferred to Stewarts and Lloyds in exchange for full back Tommy Brown and he later went on to play UCL football for both Desborough Town and Rothwell Town.
Rob had a very successful five year spell as manager of Cottingham, where he led his team to the League and Cup double in 1999/2000, winning four manager of the month awards and manager of te year along the way.
Dunion was appointed Corby Town Reserve team manager at the Rockingham Triangle in January, 2002. In June, 2002 he took over from Wayne Spencer as manager of the first team. Despite a very successful start to the 2002/03 campaign, Dunion's side began to slip down the Dr Marten's Eastern Division. This led to Lee Glover taking the top job in December 2002, with Rob Dunion staying as his assistant.
Lee and Rob's teamwork managed to turn the club's fortunes around and led Corby to a comfortable mid-table finish in 2003/04, with high expectations for 2004/05.
Lee Glover left the club however, to join Southern League Premier outfit Grantham Town. Despite the offer to join his managerial partner, Dunion decided to stay at Corby Town.
Rob was re-appointed as manager in October 2004. He named Des Elliot as his assistant.

No knocking the Steelmen.....at least they knocked Luton out of the Cup..65/66 season......1-0 at Kennilworth Rd. ( They were 4th Div. but still...)
:) :098: :098: :)

I'm quite glad we didn't get Newell now actually. I didn't ever really have him high on my list of wanted managers anyway - it was just the rumour mill that almost swung my opinion to him. Whenever I hear him being interviewed I always feel tired - soo tired, sleepy, zzzzzzz, maybe when he retires he should think about going into the talking book industry - first big seller - Curing Insomnia by Michael Newell.
