Morning All,

Just a reminder about the phone-in tonight. I often pop on this site and have a look at what you all think about the current performances of the Foxes.

Give us a bell tonight, and let it all out!

You know the numbers: 0116 2511049, [email protected], or 07786 20 50 80.

Cheers

Which forum would that be steven?

One I might visit from time to time, as many others on this site do.

perhaps we should spam radio Leicester with links for talkingballs, 'cause they probly think that the other forum is the place where most City fans are posting, which cant be true......can it :?:

Someone from BBC Leicester visits this site too (or at least they used too...), I got an email from them a year or two ago asking if I'd set up a similar forum for them.

Just checked my emails, and it wasn't a forum they wanted me to set up, it was a prediction league. I was too busy at the time to do anything for them so they probably don't like me any more.

And last week I got an email from someone at the BBC asking me to close down one of my sites.

Why?
Which one?

They didn't tell me why they want me to close down the site, but I'm presuming it's because they don't like the domain name, which is similar to one of their own sites.

Don't want to mention anything specific - but as an example, it would be similar to me getting upset if someone started a site with the address talking-balls.com.

It's not the first time I've been asked to close down a site for this reason, it's happened several times before. I always make it clear my site is nothing to do with the 'official' site, but big companies always think they have the right to shut down any site that even comes close to using their own trademarks.

Usually when they start sending letters threatening legal action I reluctantly close down the site, it's too expensive to fight against big companies.

One of my sites which I don't mind publicising is this one: http://www.biggreycat.co.uk/
It wouldn't surprise me if I get a legal letter from them soon, but I'd welcome it if it means it helps me publicise the way they're ripping people off.

You can usually buy a cat from the rescue centre in Braunstone - or try looking at adverts in shop windows etc.

Not sure if you'll get a grey one, though

my mate has lots of sites he owns some sites with famous names in the hope they will buy them of him!! hes says there is big money in this

You'll usually find that companies will take legal action to buy a name that is trademarked. So the only way you'll be able to make any money is if you can sell it to them for a price that's cheaper for them than it would be to take legal action.

The only way you'll earn really big money is if you register a name before a company decides to start using it, so they have no legal claim to it, or to get a domain that's an everyday word (shop.com for example).

There was a case about this a few years ago. Can't remember the details but I think it was IBM that took a guy to court because he had registered IBM.com and IBM.co.uk

The court decided in favour of IBM meaning that registered companies had a divine right to their own domain names.

I remember being disgusted by this. The internet used to be a media used primarily by keen computer types to share information. Now, e-commerce is here, its been taken out of the layman's hands and is just considered a corporation tool for advertising and sales.

It's disgraceful. It won't be long before you won't be able to host a website without licenses etc...

Connolly on in five mins.
