Ok my little post on the Levein debate, inspired mainly by the daft comments on the moan-in.
My negatives on the CL era:-
1) The standard of football of late is similar to that under MA and is showing little improvement. The team still makes far too many individual errors sadly accross all parts of the pitch and seems to effect every player in a blue shirt.
2) Our tactics still seem to lack thought and invention at times although it is possible they have too much thought and invention hence players being played out of position in a different system each week. The players need a system to stick to and learn.
3) Set pieces??? Enough said really, how many people need to have a go at taking them?
4) Only one complaint from me about the signings made and that is CL doesnt seem to recognise areas in the squad that must have attention and seems to sign players on an opportunistic basis, for instance with Hume. After seeing him saturday there is no doubting his class but IMO he is definatly not a striker but another attacking midfielder for a side that is struggling to accomodate Hughes and Williams. We are desperate in the striking dept, our financial priorities must lie here. Also we desperatly need some championship experienced players even if they only have the quality to get us out of this division. We have spent 3 years under MA and CL buying players out of other divisions only to find they get outwitted and outmuscled by below average championship players, this was the key difference between the teams IMO.
5) Dublin, why oh why is he here???
And the positives:-
1) Our squad now has value, whereas this time last year we only had connolly and maybe williams and could only raise small quantities of cash for Heath and Stewart. Now i think, Hughes, Maybury (despite the sending off), gudjonsson, mccarthy, and johansson would probably commmand 500k plus were we to cash in on them.
2) We are playing crap but at least we have potential to improve, our squad is young and achieving the same as the 'experienced' one from last year. They can only get better.
3) Increasingly stable finances, the wage bill has been slashed as has already been discussed ad nauseum.
For me CL must be given till the end of the year regardless of the performances, even if we get relegated (dont think this will happen by the way ). A new manager would have the same squad, was hoping for a few more positives but i am convinced we are better off than last year in all depts bar the football where we are about even.
Ok my piece is over it just saved me ranting on various threads saying the same thing.
