Right hopefully should be a quick one for some of you lot and a quick Google hasn't been able to find what i'm looking for.

I have an Asus Eee PC 1005PE which has 1GB of memory as standard. After a bit of a tidy up in the spare room I found a 2GB stick from an old laptop so decided so bung it in and give it a go. Now the Netbook still works fine (unfortunately I hear some of you cry) as I'm posting this but the BIOS and Computer properties thingy both tell me I only have 1GB of memory installed.

Question is, is the 2GB memory actually working or am I better off putting the original stuff back in seeing as it still says I only have 1GB and getting the credit card out and buying the correct stuff? Always thought it was just a plug and play with memory though only ever installed it once before so is there anything obvious I've missed?

Many Thanks
Matt

A quick Google search found this:

"The ASUS netbooks use a feature called "quick boot", that boots the system without scanning the BIOS for hardware changes first. In order to register the new amount of memory you need to enter your system set up (tap the F2 key to enter setup) and save changes before you exit out, using the F10 key. That should enable Windows to use the full 2GB."

Ahh you're a good 'un aint ya Jeff!!

Thought I had already tried that but must not have saved when exiting BIOS as it's now showing 2GB. Does this mean it's all good to use then?

In theory yes; however, the new RAM might damage your motherboard in other ways with different current etc I suppose.

Cheers lads - I'll keep a bottle of water close by then in case it starts smoking like Bob Marley!!
