Re:"Personal abuse of other forum members will no longer be tolerated on any part of the site."

Probably for the best. However, there is a big distinction between ad hominem abuse and gentle chiding or mocking which is meant in good spirit.

It would be a shame if the gentle stuff were to stop because of doubts about whether or not it goes too far but I suppose that is inevitable.

Are there any general guidelines or is it best not to even gently mock someone?

May sound like a stupid question but i assure you its not and i thought i'd ask it.

Could you not set up an extra place where you have to sign up and where anything goes, ie where people who r not offended by anything can go?

That way the people who are thicker skinned than others (not a dig at anyone) and like a bit of banter can go.

Just thought i'd ask the question. Might sound like a stupid question i dunno but thought i'd ask it.

it would be a shame to go down this route in the general forum. i initially signed up because of the banter on this forum. i'm sure i'm not the only one who signed up because of this.

I understand some people take whats said to heart at times and thats fair enough i can understand that. so why not create another area for the thicker skinned people. ( i really dont mean no offence by that term i just couldn't think what else to call them)

I am in the process of setting it up so there will be two general chat type forums, one which is visible to everyone including non members, and one where people have to join a user group to access it. That should make it easier for people who access the site from work to avoid seeing stuff that could get them into trouble.
The new members only forum rules to begin with will be the same as we have here, but that could be reviewed once it's running.

So we can't immediately have a forum where we can abuse anybody as and when we want as Enderby requested?

Shame. We had it up until around 6 o'clock tonight :icon_wink

We did, but it got to the stage where people were treating it as though the forum was just for making abusive posts.
The rules were relaxed there originally so people wouldn't have to be so careful about watching what they say, it wasn't meant to be the abuse forum, which is what it's become.

What abuse? I can't find any anywhere. Has it been deleted?
