Is McKay the guy who once managed Blackburn?
Whos-Who
Don Mackay
DON was appointed Chief European Scout last season after filling a similar role at Arsenal, where he uncovered a youthful Freddie Ljungberg.
He is vastly experienced as a manager and coach. After a successful playing career with Dundee United and Southend, he began by coaching the Bristol City youth team between 1974 to 1978.
He then took up his first management post with Danish side Norresundby, taking them into the national league.
He returned to Scotland in 1980 to manage Dundee, winning promotion and raching the League Cup final.
Between 1984 to 1986 he was in charge at Coventry City before a brief stint as reserve team coach to Graeme Souness at Glasgow Rangers.
He won the Full Members Cup at Wembley with Blackburn, taking them to the First Division play-offs three times between 1987 and 1991 and laying the basis for the successful promotion squad.
His next stop was Fulham, where he spent three seasons before the arrival of new owner Mohammed Al Fayed.
More recently he has been Director of Football at Airdrie, where his squad won the Scottish Challenge Cup.
More to the point, does anyone know if Allen has brought Junior Lewis with him!
He was appointed yesterday, his name is Don Mckay and he used to be at Arsenal and Middlesborough.
Nice to see it finally announced that Don McKay has taken over the role as I reported on her a week ago. Make no mistake, he will be a big piece of the MA jigsaw in the attempt to get us promoted.
yeah its simple his job is to make sure the team and players are playing the right sport and in the right game for example players like Elvis and hughes they aint playing any more sport at the club, hahaha it feels good to say thatSo what is his job, as Director of Sport?
Reading this from TeamTalk.com it sounds like Mackay is could ask Allen to get some of the younger players into the first team i.e Dodds, gardel,Don Mackay, who has spent the last five years or so scouring the continent for the Teessiders, has left the club to take up the post of sporting director at the Walkers Stadium.
The former Rangers, Blackburn, Coventry and Fulham manager will work alongside new Foxes boss Martin Allen as he attempts to guide the club back into the Premiership.
Mackay said: "Martin is a very determined young man.
"While I know (chairman) Milan Mandaric's idea of success will be promotion, it will not be easy because the Championship is hard to get out of in the right direction.
"But every year, there is a team that comes through that no-one expected to be fighting for promotion, as with Derby this season.
"So hopefully, I will see Boro again in a year or so's time when Leicester are in the Premier League."
Mackay was recruited by Boro in December 2001 during former boss Steve McClaren's first season and has fond memories of his time with the club.
He told Boro's official website: "For me, the definite highlight was the (2004) Carling Cup final, though last season's UEFA Cup match against Steaua Bucharest takes some beating.
"Equally, it has been wonderful to see Stewart Downing progress into the England team and the likes of Adam Johnson and David Wheater continue their development.
"Leicester won the Academy league last season, so they have got some good young players coming through.
"I hope we can give them the opportunities Middlesbrough's young players have had in recent seasons."
So what is his job, as Director of Sport?
