Sorry I've been quiet on the Norway questions today. I had to make a trip to Bournemouth and have just got back.

Rather than PM several people, I think I might as well give the details that I have to the whole group and if anybody wants to PM me for further details, they can.

I'm flying out from Stansted at 0630 on the Wednesday morning to Torp. Thanks for the 'nudge' that Torp isn't actually Oslo - I did know that but thanks for it anyway. You can get a local bus from the airport to Sandefjord station and go by train to Oslo from there. I've got one ticket from Sandefjord to Bodo and plenty of time for connections (unless Ryanair are about 3 hours late!!)

Norwegian railways have an offer on at the moment - you can travel by connecting trains for an unlimited distance for on 199 Krone (£17). These are quota controlled tickets. Once the 199 Krone tickets have sold out, there are more at 299.

I am choosing to travel by train because (a) I like trains (b) I don't particularly like planes. Internal flights in Norway seem to cost from about £50. Also by travelling by train and paying about a tenner for a couchette, I can save a night's accommodation.

The train back from Bodo actually calls at Lillestrom so it's not necessary to go into Oslo on the Saturday and back out again.

But beware if you do not like trains, the journey takes about 18 hours!!

My times are:

Wed 0630 Stansted - Torp 0925 Plane

1235 Sandefjord - Oslo 1428 train

1457 Oslo - Trondheim 2125 train

2220 Trondheim - Bodo 0910 Thu train

All Thursday in Bodo - match in the evening

Fri 1220 Bodo - Trondheim train

2305 Trondheim - Lillestrom 0635 (shit!!!) Sat train

All Saturday in Lillestrom - match in the evening

Sunday - little time in Oslo, then back to Torp for an evening flight back to Stansted

Some others of the London Branch are taking the same flights to Torp but then using internal flights in Norway.

Useful websites:

http://ryanair.com

http://www.sas.no (internal flights)
http://www.norwegian.no (internal flights)

http://www.nsb.no (Norwegain Railways)

(all three sites have English pages)

I've joined fans forums from both teams - very similar forums to this one. The natives seem friendly. I think there are 4 or 5 threads re the game on the Bodo site and 2 on the LSK site.

http://glimtforum.net/phpBB2/index.php
http://kanari-fansen.no/debatt/index.php

(You will need to register and the registration pages are in Norwegian, but if I can manage it, I'm sure that you can too!)

It would be good if there was more than just me over there!!

Sorry this is so long, but...

I was expecting there to be a narrowboat section of the journey...

There is a not-so-narrow boat which arrives in Bodo on the day of the match.

It's just that the tickets are a little more than I had planned on spending!!

Just heard from somebody who is booking for the Norway trip. Apparently they have managed to pay *less* than I did for the flight; the outward journey was £4 cheaper.

Also heard from 6 others who have booked an earlier flight back to Stansted on the Sunday - £20 more than I paid but gets back to Stansted at a more sensible time.

With regard to the train journey from Bodo to Lillestrom, no more cheap tickets are available on my train. The price is now about 1200NOK (about £104). There are however two trains a day from Bodo. You can still get a cheap ticket on the 21:00 train (Friday) to Trondheim, with the connection arriving in Lillestrom at 15:00 on Saturday - 3 hours before the game. I have just booked 4 people on this train at 424NOK each (less than £37 ), including a couchette between Bodo and Trondheim.

The internal plane fares have gone up in the past few days and SAS now have cheaper flights than Norwegian.

The computers have obviously picked up a bit of a booking surge and that is why the prices have gone up - although take note of that Ryanair fare which has gone down!! Don't miss out on the cheap fares by delaying but make sure that you check all the alternatives on the various websites.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries.

Norway trip

As you probably know the website http://norfox.net is based in Norway and we are thrilled to get Leicester City to Norway. We will in a few days launch a special site with the info needed for the whole trip. Take a look at our site in a day or two. There are details in the last posting that is not the best way. I live in Sandefjord and I am a Norwegian City fan. You can contact me at [email protected] if you have questions. Bodo is in the North of Norway and to go by train is a hell of a trip. There are unexpensive flight tickets in Norway if you travel with airline Norwegian. You should go by plane to Bodo, not by train. So if you have questions don't hesitate to contact me or our Norwegian based supporters club

Hi Ivar

I don't want to get into any kind of argument about what is the best way to get to Bodo and what isn't the best way. In the first post to this thread, I gave details of both the Norwegian Railway URL and those of the two airlines that have flights up to Bodo.

For me the choice was an easy one and that was to go to Bodo by train - but that is because I also have an interest in railways and not much interest in the top of clouds. I am the only one of the London Branch who will be going north by train, although half of them will be coming back to Lillestrom by train.

You say that the internal flights in Norway are cheap; the cheapest flights for the Gardermoen to Bodo run have gone up to over 800NOK since the match was announced - the cheapest back is almost 1000NOK; but you will know that it is possible to get some train tickets for 199NOK which will take you all the way from Sandefjord to Bodo - yes, the same price as for the two hour trip from Sandefjord to Oslo. Yes, it is a hell of a journey by train - but I am somebody who will enjoy a journey of that sort, and the difference in price may mean that somebody is able to go to Norway who otherwise would not have been able to.

And another thing - you say that the cheapest flights to Bodo are with Norwegian. If you had been looking at the websites this week as I have been doing, you would know that for most of this week the Norwegian flights have been more expensive than the SAS flights!

Also, for about 130NOK, you can get a couchette on the train - and yes, a couchette is not as good as a bed in a good hotel, but 130NOK is a lot less than the 500NOK or more that the hotel bed would cost. And I am sure there will be a good party on the overnight train from Bodo to Trondheim on the Thursday night.

Last year I followed City up into Scotland. My Megabus fare to Glasgow (with a stopover in Leeds to attend WorldNET with the InternetFoxes) cost me £7. My Megabus fare back from Glasgow to London cost me £3. I stayed at the university for £14 a night (as did one other person on this board). Megabus travel and a bed in a university might be your idea of hell - but I enjoyed it. As I am sure I will enjoy my way of travelling around Norway.

I look forward to seeing Norfox's suggestions, but please be aware that the cheapest fare from London to Norway has gone up by £40 in the last week and the Oslo-Bodo flights have gone up about £20 each. I didn't want to wait until that had happened.

Norway trip

If you enjoy going by train and taking it all as a vecation you will get a lot of goodies on your way up to Bodo. It's a fantastic landscape and you can see a lot. If you decide to get up there in a hurry and see the game, and back again, the air would be ok. But as you all know flight ticket prices bumps up and down until the day you fly. I've just been in contact with the guy that organise the trip for Leicester City and he can confirm that City will be up north for most of the trip. They will come down to Lillestrom for the Saturday game and go home on the Sunday after. The Martin's pub in Lillestrom will be a good place for all of us, let's join there on the Saturday, more to find out at http://norfox.net in a day or two. So if you plan to come over you should look up the links that we will give you the best prices, either if you go by train, boat or air. See you soon.

Norway trip

Maybe you go by train at night, but as you reach the polarcircle and Bodo it will never get dark, 24 hours day at this time of the year. So if you like to look out for nice landscapes it could be done all 24 hours on your trip up north.

Welcome to Norway

Kind regards

Ivar

Ivar

You're reading my mind. I have already arranged to meet some Kanari-Fans there and suggested that City fans should meet there too. Perhaps you have not seen the 4th message in this thread.

There are now 8 of us going from London. Skagen Hotel in Bodo just booked this morning!

Just a fortnight now and we will already be in Norway. Has anybody else from this forum managed to arrange the trip?
