now ive found some quality band like the strokes, pigeon detective, the KOL, of my own accord. And i was force fed the smiths, led zep, the stones the clash ect by my dad untill i inevitably grew to think it was all utter genius. what im trying to say is if more boys and girls from my generation new about the lyrical wonderment of morrissey or the fantastic messages behind clas songs then the world would be a much more bareable place - atleast mine would

What an enlightened attitude. Shame most other 15 year olds wouldn't go anywhere near anything associated with old farts.

Can't wait for Lazzer to read this:icon_lol:

I've been really successful at corrupting my young one's mind with real music.
The only music allowed in the car is dub, dancehall, ska or northern soul. Radio is banned.
She now joins in with the sing-along & makes requests for her favourite tracks.
More importantly, as a result she isn't into shite, plastic pop music, she likes Rihanna & beyonce so it isn't too bad, could've been a lot worse.

It's a much bigger shame that boys and girls from our generation don't know about the lyrical wonderments of Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen and listen to boring classic rock like Led Zep and the Stones rather than the Velvet underground and Tom Waits :icon_wink

A cousin of mine committed suicide after 'getting into' Leonard Cohen.
He was a 2nd or 3rd cousin & I didn't know him too well but it's true, he feckin did himself in after listening to that shite.
Music shouldn't have that kind of effect on people but it can.

Actually, on reflection that's bollocks, he was already depressed but Leonard Cohen just tipped him over the edge so there isn't any good reason why music shouldn't have that kind of effect on people, music is very emotional & I'd be lost without it, even though my taste wouldn't suit everyone.

I understand your anguish tedd, but if our children never listend to new music and only listened to stuff their parents did then I'm afraid we'd still be listening to Chopin, Mozart and Beethoven.

Thank fcuk for our kids I say. If I listened to my parents music I certainly wouldn't be listing The Smiths, Manic Street Preachers and Metallica as some of my favourite artists.
