Have not posted for a while however, I spent the day at meetings in Portsmouth yesterday and one of my scouting contacts at Portsmouth (I am a junior scout for the LCFC Academy) told me that Mickey Adams is close to signing 21 year old Gary O'neill on loan for the season. He's the England U21 captain, plays in midfield or defence and would be a real assett for us this season. O'neill was on the bench for 1-1 draw against Brum and was dogged with injury last season however, in only 3 premiership starts last year he played brilliantly each game scoring 2 against Leeds. He is now fully fit and Harry Redknapp apparently wants him to gain more first team experience but is reluctant to sell such a talent so has agreed to loan him. He's been at Pompey since he was 16 years old and has captained England at U19, U20 and now U21. Leicester are said to be both the player and Harry's preference - one other club has reputedly shown some interest. The only thing which may hold up progress is the fact that harry needs another midfielder - he's chasing Michael Carrick and the greek player Angelos Basinas. If he signs any one of those in the coming days the loan deal will be done. :D

It's not Martin, then ?

What a disappointing thread

this guy knows his stuff!

As I stated above this is from a v.reliable source and is on the front burner for MA. The comment from Harry Redknapp was that a loan move to the Walkers would suit all parties.

Keep the Faith :D

Good stuff,Redknapp will find someone soon.I heard he was after Hayles and they were going to make a film about the transfer,'When Arry signed Barry' they were going to call it.

i thought he would be cleaning up the ground with the Birch for a special "gift"

The latest is that Redknapp will now let O'niell join Leicester initially for 3 months with a further extension agreed provided pompey are not struggling for players or fighting relegation. Harry originally said this deal would only go through if he signed another midfileder however, he has now had a slight change of mind. As previously stated O'niell himself has declared a real interest in coming to Leicester and the deal should go through within days even if Harry does not get the additional midfielder he wanted. :D

I will take this more seriously if you tell us who your very reliable source is? :P

Ye of little faith.
I have been asked not to divulge the source name, what I will say is that he is a coach/scout who lives in pompey, works with the academy and has close links with the management team. As you can see from the original posting his information was spot on. I have no reason to doubt the most recent addition so wait and seen what happens next. :D

Keep the Faith

my mate know`s nothing about this proposed loan deal, not that that means it won`t happen of course !

Could this deal be linked in with Pompey's supposed interest in scowy, if so would not seem quite as bad if we could pick up a player of undoubted potential as a replacement, even if it was on loan, this would buy us some time and not force MA to rush in too find a replacement also it would be nice to start building up a transfer stash for later in the season if needed.
