Did anyone watch Panorama tonight on BBC1 at 20:30?

Quite enlightening into the world of Scientology, mainly shocking. The lengths that they go to ensure that anyone who is discrediting or bad-mouthing Scientology is scary. One documentary maker who was filming Scientologists (sp) had posters put up all around the City in which he lived warning people of this man, that he had previously been convicted for having sex with a prostitute or something similar, can't remember exactly, along with other things that he had done in his past such as drug use ect. They had traced his whole life somehow and gave details of 'grey-areas' of his past.

As well as this, they were constantly following the BBC documentary maker knowing exactly where he was/ would be without him telling him. It was one guy who was mainly following him and basically everytime the BBC guy tried to conduct an interview, this Scientology guy would turn up ad basically just have a go at him for preaching negative propaganda about Scientology.

It was if they have something to hide about the 'religion/cult' that they do not want to be found out or aired to the public and go to extreme lengths to ensure this. Very, very scary and would find it hard to accept if it was to be classed as an official religion in this country.

Tom Cruise and his mrs (Katie someone?) and I think John Travolta is a little bit as well - could be wrong though.

Yes, and I believe they were both actively seeking to prevent the airing of the documentary.

yes, they wrote to the bbc asking for it not to be shown.

I am now intrigued and will look into scientology as I understand that all members are descendants of aliens who took over this planet 75 million years ago.
Fecking quality that, that makes the bible look totally plausible....

Although in the show most of the famous Scientologists interviewed deny that this is the story, not quite sure what they think is the story, the documentary doesn't really talk about what Scientology is and what it does, it just shows that they are a cult and a bunch of loonies really.

Well worth the watch though, will post a link up to it if I find it on the net.

It is a religion and should be classed as one along with all the other nonsense fruitcake religions that have been screwing up the planet for millenia.

There are a heap of clips of the show up on youtube & google vids.
My biggest disappointment with the show was at the end when John Sweeney lost the plot but Didn't end up breaking the Scientology fellah's jaw

I have a theory that we are not of this Earth, but bacteria from a meteor that crash landed on Earth and evolved into what we are now. But that would've been more than 75Million years ago, and I'm probably wrong.

anyone know if/when its repeated, really wanted to watch this bunch of fruit loops

they'll be after me for calling them that:icon_conf

hardly your theory ;)

as for Scientology, the (no laughing please) theory goes that humans were dumped on volcanos and killed by nuclear bombs and their ghosts (called thetans) inhabit us and cause all the wrong in the world, summat like that

incidentally Ron Hubbard who set up scientology once said (before the setting up of course): "The way to make a million
dollars is to start a religion." (although Wiki doesn't quote this, it may be apochryphal)
