that's the sorry state of it. the club is slowly slipping back further and further. we just don't seem to have the ability to win matches any more.

I beleive when a manager realises his team are struggling, he should go back to basics. play players in their own natural positins and play a straight forward 4-4-2 and let games play themselves and eventually it will come good as we clearly do have some quality in the team.

but no, CL seems to enjoy playing players out of position and tinkiering with tactics too much. He should be relying on his best players to pull the club out of this little collapse, not substituting them - or worse not even playing them!!!

i have come to the conclusion that the team is quite clearly shite. and the manager has little or no idea what to do about it.

I think Leveins plan all along was to treat this as a nothing season.

He know full well that the board wont sack him as he's convinced them of his 'long term plan'. So that has given him carte blanche to fiddle about to his hearts content for the big push next season. But surely after 19 games and only 4 in the win column it's time to start to settle things down.

We might be going for promotion next year, but what division will it be from?

precisely. i'm very fond of craig as a managerr and i like the fact he's focusing on building a team for the future. BUUUUT if we don't start performing in the short term we could end up being in a position where the up-and-coming players will be in a far lower position than they need to be to get us back into the big time.

fair enough, build for the future but provide security short term too. i'm sure Craig was aiming for a top half finish this term but it doesn't look like that's going to happen at this rate.

Are we in the bottom 3? Is the season over? Keep walking UP the street people, long way to go yet. Flipping heck the leaves aren't off the trees yet :icon_roll

at this rate, avoiding relegation will be deemed as a successful season. if next year is supposedly the year for us, how do you think we will sign any quality players between now & then? by the summer time we will be a team that has finished in the bottom half of this division 2 seasons in a row and will struggle to attract any players at all.

I guess the Levein masterplan is that the younger players will have bedded in so we wont need to buy anyone new.

Which young players? We only play stearman from the youths?! Or did you mean the younger players he has brought in?If so then call me and idiot and be done with it!

I was speaking from Leveins point of view - what he probably wanted to see this season was the younger players such as Stearman, Gilbert, McCarthy and Hughes bedding in and becoming the backbone of the team. With the intention of pushing on next season. However, what Craig wants and what Craig gets are two different matters entirely.

I don't think it has been fully realised how completely the age-balance of the team/squad has changed. If you look back to the QPR (a) game of last season, you will see that the youngest player was David Connolly (27) - until the ref told him he couldn't play any more.

True Boc unless we play Jason Wilcox which then adds 5 years onto the average age of the side because he must be about 72 now.

Oh i agree, Im a huge fan of youth's playing, my cousin used to play for the ressies and got a first team game, then was shipped out by Taylor. Im not sure if the balance of youth and experience is right tho at the mo.

Didn't he play for Hinckley for a while?

Yeah for a while, but is a bit injury prone by all accounts and now plays for Quorn. Training to be an accountant!
