Double Reward For Stearman
Posted on: Tue 29 Apr 2008
Richard Stearman took the accolades at Monday evening's Player-of-the-Year Awards Dinner at the Walkers Stadium.

The 20-year-old defender, who has now made over 100 starts for the Foxes and earned England Under-21 recognition this season, helped himself to the Player-of-the-Season Award as well as the Players' Player-of-the-Season trophy.

The former Academy star said: "It's always nice to have your efforts recognised by your peers even after what has been a difficult season.

"But I'd gladly swap these trophies for a win at Stoke on Sunday and Championship survival.

"This club means so much to all the players particularly myself, who has come through the ranks from an early age."

City's 4-0 victory over Norwich City in February won the Team Performance of the Season while Iain Hume's crackerjack in the 4-1 early season victory over Watford was voted Goal of the Season on the night.

The Lumbers Goal of the Month overall winner was Steve Howard (versus Norwich), who helped himself to a Zenith Defy watch courtesy of the Market Street jeweller.

Defender Lathanial Rowe-Turner was named Academy Player-of-the-Season after another impressive campaign for the Under-18s and Reserves.

Meanwhile, Programme Seller Dave Simpson was presented with the club's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dave, who is also a season-ticket holder, has helped sell the club's matchday programme for over 50 years.

"I simply enjoy helping the club and it's nice to have had my efforts recognised after so many years involved," said Dave, who received a huge ovation when going up to collect his award.

"I love this club and have stuck with them through thick and thin."

Over 400 people packed into the Great Hall for the awards ceremony, sponsored by Marston's, which was hosted by Club Ambassador Alan 'The Birch' Birchenall whilst manager Ian Holloway and the first-team squad were also present.

Richard Stearman - Player Of The Season

That statement alone sums our season up perfectly.

He'll be off in the Summer. Deserves some sort of recognition but not sure he was player of the season.

Has he made the most appearances?

To be fair, it does say he helped himself to the awards. You'd have thought someone would have tried to stop him though. Actually I quite like that image - players turn up to the awards ceremony only to find the trophies under armed guard - "not for you useless bastards. Elvis, come on down!"
