Thank the good Lord, it looks like we've finally found two wide men who like the ball, can run, and aren't afraid to have a crack. Porter and Low even looked like they were having FUN. i've not seen the team as at ease with one another as they were when they came out from half time last night with SMILES on their faces. We didn't win but that was the best thing to come out of the game by a mile.

Wesolowski came on again last night and looked like a really decent addition to the midifield, adding energy and a really good touch to the Hughes, Johnson combination. Williams still has a future in this squad too I think in the right context.

With the defence looking competitive, we are only 2 players away from moving forward as a noticably better squad than last year from what i've seen. A midfielder and a target man. Elliot and Kuqi, Elliot and Stead? Will Dodds step up? Is Ashley Chambers going to be a Joachim who can shoot with something other than the outside of his right foot??
Any two of these players could add another dimension.

Let's jettison Maybury or Stearman and O'Grady (you need to score more than 1 league goal to get a reputation boys, unless your Matt Piper) to raise some cash and then unearth a gem to get the best out of Fryatt, Hume, Wesolowski, Porter, Low, Kisnorbo and Paddy. The core of potentially our best side in 3 years.
WORSE SETS OF PLAYERS HAVE MADE THE PLAY OFF FINALS. Does anyone remember coatsworth, jimmy willis, brian carey, colin gibson, steve thompson, ian ormondroyd, mark blake. DRAGGED TO THE PLAY OFFS by Steve Walsh, Tommy Wright, Gary Mills and a partisan support.
CITY ARE ON THE UP, let's fill up the Walkers and party like its the nineties....

ormondroyd was better than hammond last night :icon_eek:

Ormondroyd was a decent player, his problem was he wasn't a good target man, and that's where he got played because of his height. When he played on the left wing he did well, he had a good left foot and was fairly quick.

it only took him three strides to get from half way to the goal line

the end of that season was bizarre, we went on an unbeaten run of about 10 drawn games with basically a whole first team injured. the team that played in the play-offs was almost the same as the reserve team they sent out for the Anglo-italian cup if I remember!

And yes, Steve Thompson, was class at that level.

OK i'll give you Thompson (if only for his last minute winner against Derby) but i'm not having Ormondroyd. He didn't have a good left peg and if he was quick I'm Mark De Vries.
The key thing is, we can get to the play offs with a squad of the quality we have (with 1 or 2 additions) if we have the right attitude, a bit of luck, and a full Walkers.

:icon_lol: Big selection of ifs there!

Attitude - not sure, there seems to bit a lot of pissheads in the team

Luck - what is that?!?!

Full Walkers - :081: :081: :081: :081: :081: :081: :081: :081: :081:

And I don't think we have the quality either, but I live in hope.

Mid-table at best, behind Southend.

Unless we can find something in the final third of the pitch i think you are right.

When we had Dickov and Deane in this league every time we were in the opposition box we would have rougly a 50/50 chance of scoring.

I would rate it now at about 10%. I also think a team that challenges can make something out of corners and set pieces. Last time we got promoted that was our bread and butter. I lost count of the amount of corners we had on friday night in the first half alone. To not get on any of them is appauling!

Having said that I do think it was good to keep a clean sheet.

Exactly right Silver - which is why I'd be keen to see O'Grady partner Fryatt up front, more prescence.

It was full when we last got promoted, where are all those 'supporters'.
We need those people to have a reason to get back behind the side. Or we can expect more seasons of no cash, and more seasons with no home advantage.

It was indeed full. I was there and I still continue to be there. But I equally don't blame a lot of people for not coming down. It is expensive and depressing.

I think you will probably find that for many the novelty of a brand new stadium has worn off and they would prefer not to bother.

Its a shame, but that is the way it is. Although i am convinced that a positive run would bring some people back...making that actually happen is a different matter entirely.:frown:

Like I said, I don't really blame anyone for not going down to watch. And you are right. The club does need a good shake up. There are a lot of attractive features about the club. We have a top quality ground, and top quality training facilities.

We just don't have the money or the staff, both in a playing and business capacity to make the whole package:

1. Work
2. attractive to investors.

If I could grab someone by the throat and shake them I would!:icon_lol:

I also find myself tired of hearing the same thing coming out of the club, which is in a nutshell that, 'we don't have the finances to spend'.

We have known that the parachute payments were coming to an end for a long time but we have looked for no investors and the profile of the club is at its lowest in probably two decades!!!

I was told by Tim Davies once upon a time that 'we are always looking for investors'...well i'm sorry Tim me old chum but I have seen no evidence of this. What exactly have we done to look or investment because I would like to know!

Its time to make a change!
