Leicester City will turn attentions to European opposition in the countdown to the new Premier League season, as Italian side Atalanta prepare to visit King Power Stadium this August.

The game will take place on Friday 2 August (7.45pm BST kick-off) – just eight days before the start of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign – and will be City’s only home fixture this pre-season.

As City prepare to begin their quest to return to the European stage under Brendan Rodgers, Atalanta will be heading for their first-ever campaign in the UEFA Champions League after ending the 2018/19 Serie A season in an impressive third position, behind Juventus and Napoli.

Their visit to Filbert Way will be City’s only fixture at King Power Stadium during pre-season, with away trips to Scunthorpe United (Tuesday 16 July, 7.30pm BST kick-off), Cheltenham Town (Saturday 20 July, 3pm BST kick-off), Cambridge United (Tuesday 23 July, 7.30pm BST kick-off) Stoke City (Saturday 27 July, 3pm BST kick-off) and Rotherham United (Saturday 27 July, 3pm BST kick-off) already confirmed.

Ticket details and selling arrangements for the Atalanta fixture will be confirmed in due course.

Very trendy team, Atalanta. Some very talented players like Ilicic and Gomez that who will surely be linked to us in the Mockery shortly after.

Reminds me of playing Enrico Chiesa’s Fiorentina at Filbo. 3-3 and a Sturridge hat trick.

My initial thought looking at our pre-season schedule was that it was unusually dull. No foreign trips, no mini competitions for cash, no real glamour friendly. I didn't really get it.

However, it is actually a very smart decision. I don't think we're travelling more than 80 miles from Leicester. So many of our players have been battered yet again this summer with draining internationals. I think only Ricardo and Vardy from our best eleven have had the full summer off.

Keep pre-season at home and allow the players to prepare themselves as well as possible whilst maximising rest time with their families.

This may be another really key decision made by Rodgers emphasising the importance of him joining us when he did rather than in the summer.

I like the fact we are playing Rotherham tbh - last time we played them in a pre season friendly we won the Premier League

It's been on our fixture list for ages

Nice will be training at St George's Park, maybe the match will be behind closed doors there.
Marseille played there against Stoke U23 a couple of weeks ago and they gave away 500 free tickets via Marseille’s website, so might be worth keeping an eye on.
