We used to have refs making odd decisions and getting things wrong, same with the linesman. In the grand scheme of things it was tolerable overall

But never, ever, in a million years would that have ever been ruled as offside by even the most incompetent buffoon ref or linesman of all time.

What about the hundreds of times you have complained about an official getting a decision wrong? Surely, getting robbed is far worse?

Last season, we had the following decisions affected by VAR:

Overturns: 15
Leading to goals for: 1
Disallowed goals for: 3
Leading to goals against: 1
Disallowed goals against: 4
Net goal score: +1
Subjective decisions for: 3
Subjective decisions against: 3

What here is bad for the game or ruining the game? We got more consistent and right decisions for and against us. It really isn't affecting the game that much apart from improving it.

The two problems with VAR are,

1. The rules of the game needed to be more specific and detailed. They are slowly addressing this.
2. Officials are getting used to it so are not applying it right all the time or quickly enough. They are slowly addressing this.

You've got it completely the wrong way round

The use of VAR has directly enabled the creation of ludicrous interpretations of both the offside and handball laws.

Without VAR you would never be calling a toenail or an armpit as being offside, or the utter nonsense of the hand being in an unnatural position etc.

The more it is used, the more the Laws of the game will be reduced to quite ridiculous micro-interpretations of minute body positions and shapes

VAR has caused the current problems. Remove it and this utter stupidity will go away

Your argument is that you preferred football when nobody really could tell what was, and what wasn't. offside and so we just allowed goals or disallowed goals based on random linesmen guesses.
 
I’d say VAR is improving some aspects of the game. But not that Mane offside. It should be used to check but if officials are arguing even with VAR whether something is slightly offside or not, surely there must be an allowed margin for error?
It’s also phenomenally inconsistent. How can you disallow Nacho’s goal last year against Norwich, but allow Werner’s goal yesterday considering it was a clear touch on his arm?
 
Until there is an AI that can automatically draw the lines there is always going to be human error and dodgy decisions. So we need to give the humans making the decisions a margin for error, perhaps bringing back the clear daylight rule to make it easier for them. I don't particularly like that rule, but might be more consistent.

As for handballs they will need to have a clear line printed on the arms of the shirts in a regulated position.

Bringing back the clear daylight rule? That was never a rule, just a figment of Andy Gray’s imagination.

Oh please. In whose opinion is this? Too many people disagree for you to state this as though it is a fact. The "opinion of the referee" has served the game well for a century and a half. If the overall difference is as negligible as you claim, what is the point of spending untold thousands on technology which is ruining the spectacle for so many?
 
Lolz. That was beautiful. You could feel the commentators pain as they had to hold in the jizz when Bale fluffed his chance to wrap it up.
