More reason for MM to get excited about this club

If Milan could only see that he has an Ace and King of clubs and the community cards are 10 Jack Queen of clubs, he'd realise that he's on to a winner.

The money will all end up in the pockets of players and agents, it won't make the game any better for fans, and the way it rewards success means it's going to be even harder for clubs to challenge the top teams, and for promoted teams to stay up. The Premiership is going to become even more predictable and boring than it is now.

Thats just stupidly crazy.

I think it means more and more teams will yo yo between the top 2 leagues. Teams going up won't have anywhere near as much as the ones that have been there for a year or more, but then when they get relegated they'll get £30m which should get them straight back up.

Way too much money. That's the problem with the money being spread only over the Premiership. If the Prem was part of the Football League, that money could be spread down through all the leagues and it would be much more interesting.

do you want us to stay in the fizzy then Jeff?

No, but I think this could eventually lead to a situation where getting promoted will be pointless as the difference between the top two divisions will be far too big and promoted teams just won't be able to compete. We're already seeing that to an extent, but this will just make it worse.

I'd rather have some kind of system in place to even things out a bit, the TV money should be shared equally between the Premiership teams, and more should be given to clubs outside the Premiership.

That's exactly why there is rumours that the Championship could soon become a Premiership 2. With 16/18 teams in the higher division and the 2/4 smaller clubs plus 16 'bigger' championship sides in.

But then the gap would just be between Championship and League One, rather than Premiership and Championship. Admittedly it would probably be a smaller gap than between how the Prem and Champ will be from next season though.

Too much money in the game, and within a couple of years it probably won't make much difference to the teams in the Premiership anyway because if all the clubs have that much money, then suddenly a £10m offer for your best player isn't as good as it was, so transfer fees will go up. Wages will go up as well. So domestically, clubs won't be able to buy better players, because everybody will have more money anyway. The only way teams might be able to get better players is from abroad.
Clubs going up from the Championship won't have anything like that money though when they get to the Prem, so will have to stick to what they've got, or lower league or foreign players again.

So really, all this extra money is going to do is widen the gap between the top flight and the rest, and bring more foreign players to the league, probably making our national team even worse.
Great stuff. :icon_roll

The gap will widen but every year there is always one established club at the minimum who messes up and loses there safe position, this year its charlton, there are a few others who are on dodgy ground like west ham but still have a chance, last year wigan stayed up with a cushion this year its reading doing the same. I think this will always be the case even when the money goes ip.

Clubs going up will be in a position where they dont have a premiership budget during their first season, they can probably pay higher wages but unless they already got cash in the bank or prepared to borrow its tough for them to do big transfer deals as they dont get their first bumper payment till the end of the season. But bearing this in mind even going up for 1 season is worth now at least 52 million including parachute money, if someone like us went up invested in the squad but got relegated we should be in a position to maintain a squad to go straight back up and then the 2nd time have a easier time to stay up.

The Prem Deal is a stonking one. The last time it went up by such a big proportion was the deal before last ... and Peter Taylor blew all of our dosh by getting us relegated. Actually he didn't get us relegated Bassett and Adams did but you know what I mean. The same year Leeds started living the dream with Ridsdale. There will be another big faller with this deal ... Man City?

Watford - Leeds play off Final (Watford win 3-0)

Situation now is; Watford bottom of the Prem
Leeds joint bottom of the Championship

Watford richer to the tune of 30m + 2 lots of 10m

£50m resting on one game, Play off final is the biggest game in world football-reward wise ??? Madness

watford wont get the extra it starts from next season and its paid at the end of the season.

Sorry watford will get it if they pull off one hell of a run and stay up this year.

The first bumper payment will be end of 2008/2009 season.

What do they get this year?

Still a fantastic amount

This money also works out at about a million pound for every place you move up the league so goal difference could be a major factor around mid table!
