[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]At last! After months of agonising waiting, Sony have finally announced the details of the UK release of the PlayStation 3! The latest member of the PlayStation family will be arriving with us on the 23rd of March, a date that had previously been rumoured for some time.

The fully-specced 60GB model will be available at launch, equipped with wireless controller, multimedia memory card slots, the 60GB hard drive, HDMI output, and the HDTV compatible Blu-Ray disc playback functionality built in!

If the console's power alone isn't enough to tempt you, it will be joined by a tasty list of around thirty games from Sony, Ubisoft, Sega, Electronic Arts and more! Some will be disc based games as usual, while others will be available to download from Sony's online PS3 store, direct to your console's hard drive! The much vaunted Gran Turismo HD will be available through this service, running in eye blistering 1080p hi-definition![/FONT]

Played one at the science museum it was the motorstorm game.

Did not seem extra special that i would have to go out and spend nearly £500 to get it online in HD and one game

Plus the release list is mainly out already on the 360 anyway.

There's only going to be 1,000,000 units for the whole of Europe so its going to be pretty hard to get your hands on one to begin with! Can't see it being twice as good as the 360 as it is twice the price. Also their are major doubts over the capabilities of Blu-Ray discs as they read the data a lot slower than a Dual Layer VD. Could put Sony out of business it is a complete flop but unlikely due to the fact the Japanese love it!

I was going to point out the same thing.. and also by all accounts the PS3 is lagging behind in last place this generation in US and Japan. I think it'll do a little better over here.. us brits are suckers for pricey goods, we must be, as we always get the shit deals on new gear

but £425.. what a pisstake.. if they sell out at that price I will be gobsmacked. I'd expect a free TV in with that bundle

The Wii battered it in japan, people are n0t buying it in japan due to its price. Sony shipped a lot but actually have not sold a lot.

I have a few friends in america and they say you can get a PS3 no problem.

Sony are in the shit and need the PS3 to do well. This is manily due to high production and development cost of the PS3.

It was just something I read in the Metro I think, it was some-time ago and it mentioned that Sony rely heavily on the Playstation as that is one of the very few sub-divisions of Sony Entertainment that actually makes a profit!!

I have read it in a games magazine also but I also caught it in the Metro.

They have put all there eggs in one basket for the future and that is Blu-Ray, it that does not go well then Sony are in for a very tough time.

There are roumors that big developers are distancing themselves from the PS3 as Blu-Ray is causing them problems. The slow speed of them as Matt points out is only one of the issues with it.

PLus many of the Sony big exclusives are releasing on the 360 at the same time, Sony may have misread the market. Even the developer behind Metal Gear has hinted he is interested in the 360, ad I am sure if MS offer enough cash then it may well happen.

Yeah I saw that player, quite interesting, plus it said that it would upscale and old DVD upto 1080i.

Releasing in the summer but no price tag was mentioned

the thing is the playstation will have brand loyalty-the ps2 outsold the xbox and therefore many will see there next purchase to logically be the ps3-obviously there will be some exceptions to the rule (such as myself having owned a psx and ps2 but now owning an xbox 360) but the majority will stick with the playstation brand

I'm not so sure about that DD, I myself was loyal Playstation but they seemed to well and truly F'd themselves in the A on this one so far. I and few of my mates who all had PS1s and 2s have move to Xbox and will not even consider the PS3 until it is greatly reduced in price. I would say that this is definitely the case for the vast majority of my demographic group as well (16-25) which would be of a lot of interest to Sony. Only the kids with very rich parents will get one of these as there is a product that is a viable substitute at almost half of the price!
