My stereo has a problem at 11pm every night - someone, somewhere in Brum, appears to turn the power dial on the signal waaaaaaaay low and my reception starts cutting out.

I've tried complaining to all sorts but no one takes responsibility. Anyone know who is responsible for this?

Who have you already complained to? What was the response?

It's not clear what stations you have this problem on. Are they FM stations or AM stations? Does it cover the whole band or only certain stations?

I've never heard of any authorised station which turns its power down at a particular time of day - that doesn't seem at all likely to me. It is well known that the reception of MW stations suffers in the hours of darkness - the fact that your problem begins at 11:00 p.m. seems to rule out that kind of problem.

The fact that you live in Brum and that the problem starts so late suggests to me that your problem will not be with somebody turning the signal down - rather more that somebody is turning some other kind of signal up. Big cities are full of illegal 'pirate' broadcasters and their equipment often causes problems for people trying to listen to other stations.

Unauthorised broadcasting used to be investigated by the Radiotelecommunications Agency but this was subsumed into Ofcom about 4 years ago. To complain to Ofcom, start at this page.

It's every digital station, from 11 o'clock every night - not AM/FM interference. I can change over to FM and get a fine reception.
