Water Gypsy
... is Andy Woolmer of Northampton.

We've never had him before and it will be only his 5th Championship game after getting onto the League list last season.

Colin Hendry had plenty to say about him last week when he sent off Tommy Wright at Bloomfield Road against Brentford last week. As did the Shropshire Star, when he was still doing non-league a couple of years ago - "Andy Woolmer tried to brighten up a mundane midweek match at the Meadow with his one-man comedy show." It goes on to use the terms muppet, wacky, pedantic, fussy, ropy, and "the man in the muddle".

Yes, he seems to have attracted a lot of comment but his record for this season seems to suggest that he sees a lot or absolutely nothing at all. In 3 of his 12 games he hasn't produced a single card, but in 6 of the others he has produced 5 or more with his personal max being 8 in the recent LDV game at Gillingham.

Should be interesting then. Hopefully he sends 5 of their players off.

Are there any Premier League refs doing the Championship as well this season, like they used to do or do we just have to put up with the dross? Then again looking at some of the decisions in the Prem this year the overall standard doesn't look that much better.

We had Uriah a few weeks ago and he's back on the Prem list - I though he made a good job of it. Far less fussy than he used to be - and probably more tolerant than most refs are now.

Fuller answer:

Eighteen different refs have officiated at Prem games this season and all except Mike Riley have also performed in matches in lower divisions.

We have had four of them - all in away matches! Mark Clattenburg at Hull, Mark Halsey at Crewe, Dermot Gallagher at Derby and Uriah F at Watford.

From what I've seen of him Clattenberg seems quite a good ref, that Riley has got to be the worst.

FFS - no!!!!!

If he sends 5 off the match would have to be abandoned and we might be faced with the prospect of another trip to the end of the earth!!!

But they would say that wouldn't they;)

Very true - and I wasn't meaning to suggest that they are right and you are wrong. Just pointing to something that I had found.

I missed the game at Hull and I can't even place Clattenburg, either from a live match or from seeing him on the TV - which is probably a point in his favour!!

well as long as we don't get riley soon, is he still the top ref in the premiership, allegedly?

They must reckon that he is. He's not had a single league match outside the top division.
