... will be new to both Leicester and Southampton in his third year as a Football league referee.

Steve Tanner (no, he's not the one who was married to Elsie) comes from the Bristol area and should be popular with City fans for his part in ensuring that F!"$t are playing in League One this season - it was he who sent off their keeper in the game at Reading at the end of last season, giving James Harper the opportunity to score the only goal of the game in the confusion immediately afterwards.

Curiously, he seems to be a bit ambivalent about sending off keepers at the Madjeski - he did the same thing to Millwall's there earlier this season. Just realised that the two goalies in question were Paul Gerrard and Andy Marshall - so here we have a ref who loves Reading and hates ex-Ipswich goalies, yet when Jason de Vos (Ipswich's current keeper) brought down Reading's Kevin Doyle a full five yards outside the box in last month's league match (again at the Madjeski) the referee just showed him a yellow when everybody thought a sending-off was more likely. Perhaps he thought that sending off a keeper in three successive games at the same stadium would give him a bad name. Very odd!!

After showing 117 cards in just 28 games in his first League season, he seemed to be slowing down a bit last year when he managed exactly 100 in 33 games. This time he's upped it again with 37Y and 6R in just 13 games.

25 red cards in less than 2½ seasons does seem quite a lot - and so does the 5 games in which he ha sent off 2 players. Three times it's been players of opposing sides for fighting, but on the other two occasions he's had one team finishing up with only 9 men.

I think Messrs Wise and Tiatto should be a bit wary - but Rab Douglas and Niemi should be OK; neither of them has ever played for Ipswich.

What odds on the game not finising 11- a-side? :102:
Keep Tiatto on the bench, let Dublin start up front and give twatface a kick every now and then (away from our area!) :)

Let's hope Harry doesn't read this and CL does. Then Tiatto can be left out of the squad and Dennis Wanker, sorry Wise  :icon_razz :102: :icon_wink , can get sent off. :icon_wink

I thought Jason De Vos was a defender ??

After yesterdays performance, I would consider the ref as one of the better ones we have had at the Walkers. Was fair to both sides and only missed a couple of incidents which did cause concern to either side. Considering some of the crap refs we have had down here in the last couple of seasons this one got good marks.

I agree. he didn't blow for a single foul in the first seven minutes of the game. Just two off-sides in that time and ball out-of-play decisions.

There were periods when he was blowing for a foul every 30 seconds, but players foul each other every 30 seconds what can you expect him to do?

A good ref who was always well in control!

He certainly helped contribute to a fairly free flowing game, and what I did enjoy about his refereeing was the way he tried to play the advantage rule, he did seem determined to try and keep the game moving.

Referees get a right slating, and rightly so, but this guy deserves a lot of credit and hopefully we will start to see this standard of refereeing on a more regular basis.

the referee wasnt bad yesterday, i got sick of him not hurrying their players up for the blatent timewasting that was going on though.
