Reserves Fall To Hammers
A young Leicester City reserve side went down 5-2 to West Ham United at Upton Park on Wednesday evening.
The Foxes, who had no players in their line up with senior team experience, were always going to be up against it facing a Hammers line-up containing six first team stars.
But after being more than a match for the first hour of the contest experience told in the end and the Premiership side would take all three points on the night.
The Foxes took the lead through Max Gradel, who has been prolific for the second string since the turn of the year.
But West Ham fought back and would go 2-1 ahead before Scott Lycett pulled one back for City to make it all square at the break.
Leicester had chances to take the lead at the start of the second half, but three late goals for the home side would seal City's fate.
Coach Steve Beaglehole said: "We were outstanding for the first hour, and in the end we certainly weren't hammered like the scoreline suggests.
"In fact we had a number of chances to go 3-2 up in the second half, so we are disappointed not to have got anything from the game.
"West Ham took the chance to play a number of first team squad members, while our oldest player was just 19. But we competed well.
"Jay Smedley (pictured) played his first full game since returning from injury, while young Scott Lycett made his first start following an operation. It was good to see them back on the park."
