Late Sub Warms City Hearts

Chris O'GradyLeicester's reserves came back from two goals down to register a 2-2 draw with Norwich City at a bitterly cold Marston's Stadium.

The Canaries put in a typical away team performance, both their first half strikes coming on the counter attack.

But Leicester would not accept defeat and substitute Max Gradel secured a share of the points in the final minutes after Chris O'Grady (pictured above right

The visitors took an early lead against the run of play. Captain Ian Henderson stole in from the right flank to score with just five minutes gone, latching on to a through ball from former Manchester City and Preston midfielder Dickson Etuhu.

Minutes later O'Grady twisted and turned his way through the Norwich defence and was desperately unlucky to see his goalbound effort blocked by a last-gasp lunge with the 'keeper beaten.

On-loan left back Rufus Brevett came to the rescue soon after to clear a chipped shot off the line.

Before twenty minutes had ticked by though, Leicester were further behind to an opportunist goal. When Elvis Hammond pulled up hurt, Norwich seized on the chance to pick up the ball and go on the break. Robert Eagle lobbed the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 and finish the move.

In the 35th minute O'Grady brought the ball down well and forced a sprawling save from Joe Lewis in the Norwich goal. Conrad Logan then produced an equally impressive diving stop at the other end to deny Ryan Jarvis.

As an eventful first half drew to a close, full back Jay Smedley hit a cross-cum-shot on the overlap which deceived the 'keeper and struck the bar.

Early in the second period Elvis Hammond came close to finding the net, but Lewis was again on his guard and tipped the ball round the post at full stretch.

The Foxes had two claims for handball rejected within seconds of oneanother. The second looked clear cut and would have resulted in a penalty.

O'Grady's persistence paid off in the 84th minute. On another tormenting run into the box, he was bundled over from behind. The young striker stepped up to convert the penalty himself and throw City a lifeline.

No sooner had Gradel replaced Lee Morris than he levelled up the game with his second touch, his first being the flick to take the ball round the goalkeeper.

Indeed Gradel could have snatched a victory were it not for a fine save. He headed a Smedley cross goalward only for Lewis to claw the ball over the bar and keep honours even in stoppage time.

I thought Lee Morris was a little on the fat side and I didn't know he was a forward
