Eric Odihambo

Reserves Leave It Late

City's second string needed a last minute goal from Eric Odihambo to claim a 3-2 victory over Coventry on Monday night.

The Foxes looked as though they may have squandered a two goal cushion to share the points with their Midlands rivals, but the substitute striker scored at the death to secure maximum points.

Full report to follow...

CITY: Cisak, Lycett, Wykes, Porter, Norval, Franklin, Gradel, King, Chambers, Dodds, Muggleton
Subs: Mattock, Odhiambo, Smedley, Beswick, Rochester

It was an evenly fought contest throughout and the young Leicester team did well to edge out the Sky Blues for the second time in just three days, having also won in the Academy fixture between the two sides on Saturday.

In the fifth minute, goalkeeper Alex Cisak produced a fabulous save to keep the scoresheet blank, parrying a blistering shot. But minutes later his error almost gifted the visitors with an opener when he came to claim the ball outside of the penalty area. Realising his position on the field, Cisak chose not to handle the ball and let it bobble through to an unmarked opponent. Fortunately the Coventry striker was unable to capitalise, hitting the post with the goal at his mercy to spare the 'keeper's blushes.

Cisak did not let that mistake phase him however and was again on hand to keep City level in the 22nd minute. His stop of a thunderous volley was met with raptuous applause by the crowd at the Marston's Stadium.

In the last action of the first half Ashley Chambers found the back of the net having leapt upon a flicked header back to Clayton Ince, but was judged to have fouled the goalkeeoper in charging down his attempted clearance.

With the match goalless at halftime, Leicester couldn't have gotten off to a better start in the second period. Max Gradel, who has now scored in each of the last three reserves fixtures, followed up his own blocked shot to put City 1-0 up as the Foxes piled on the pressure with lively attacking play.

Louis Dodds made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on 63 minutes after Odihambo was brought down when sprinting through on goal.

Coventry pulled one back in the 69th minute, Liam Davis' strike off the post ruled to have crossed the line before Cisak clawed the ball away. Soon after it was all square, the equaliser much more clear cut as Ange Lorougnon fired one in from the edge of the box.

Another fine save by Cisak, then the upright once more came to Leicester's aid to prevent them falling behind as the clock ticked down into the closing minutes.

Late replacement Ryan Beswick had good claims on a second penalty waved away yet Odihambo made sure that didn't matter as he put the Foxes back in front and wrapped up the win.
