Ricky Sappleton is playing with the Silkmen's Reserve side tonight with a view to a loan move from Leicester City.

The player began his career at QPR and from there had trials with Middlesbrough and Liverpool before opting to join Leicester City in summer of 2007.

The following season he was a regular in both the Reserve and Youth side for the Foxes, scoring an impressive 14 in 16 starts (and five sub appearances) for the Reserve side. This included goals against Nottingham Forest and West Brom, and a hat-trick against Oldham.

He made his only senior appearance for the Foxes to date in his first season, coming off the bench to replace Carl Cort in the second half of a 2-1 Championship defeat to Southampton.

Last season he found playing time limited at Leicester as the Foxes had dropped their Reserve side, but he spent three loan spells at Bournemouth, Oxford and AFC Telford, scoring three goals in 14 appearances between the three clubs, several of these coming from the bench.

Seems he did pretty well. :icon_bigg

Macclesfield Res 3-1 Sheffield Wednesday
Posted on: Wed 26 Aug 2009
The Silkmen opened their Central League campaign at Moss Rose with an impressive win over Sheffield Wednesday with all the goals and action coming in the second half of an entertaining game.

The home team had the best of a goalless first half with John Rooney going closest to opening the scoring with a 20 yard strike that skimmed the Wednesday cross bar.

It didn't take long for an open game to explode into life after the break. On 50 minutes, Macc won a corner on the right at the Star Lane End. Emile Sinclair found Rooney in space on the edge of the box. His sweetly struck shot was well saved by the Wednesday keeper only for Lee Bell to knock in the rebound to give the Silkmen the lead.

With their noses in front Macc pressed forward in search of a second. Stephen Reed, returning from an injury sustained in the first week of training, was looking neat and tidy at left back and his incisive passing was putting the Wednesday defence under pressure. Triallist Ricky Sappleton was leading the line with some strength and aggression while Emile Sinclair's pace on the right was regularly getting him behind the Wednesday back line.

The Silkmen didn't take long to extend their lead. Shortly after Vinny Mukendi replaced Kris Dennis Ricky Sappleton found himself in the box with just the keeper to beat. The big striker dipped his shoulder to wrong foot O'Donnell and blasted the ball into the roof of the net to double Macc's lead.

Sappleton also had a key role in the Silkmen's third goal. He picked up the ball in mid-field and hit a ball wide right to find Sinclair in space. The winger then whipped the ball into the box where Vinny Mukendi finished a great move with a neat header.

It was really game over at that point but there was still time for Jose Veiga to save bravely at the feet of a Wednesday striker before Wednesday substitute Charlie Tunnard was given too much space at the edge of the box giving him time to find the net with a neat strike that gave Veiga no chance. It was merely a late consolation for Wednesday who were well beaten on the night by a rampant second half performance from the Silkmen.

Found his level then, sadly for him it's Macclesfield ressies :icon_lol:

When he heard he was having a trial with a team from the north west, he probably thought it was Manchester United or Liverpool. Sadly not, Ricky. Now, do us all a favour and do one.

Piss off you spoilt little brat. Must be really hard for you to play at Leicester City - what a hard life you must have. TWat. Another waste of time.

You had high hopes for him at one time. :icon_conf

I can't believe when Allen brought him in it was one of those "beat competition from several other clubs" signings, and now look at him, he probably won't even be a professional footballer in about 3 seasons.

Indeed, and I still rate Stephanie Hughes....

Makes me mad. Seems our Pricky Supplebum needs a better guide as his behaviour at the club of late is just bananas. He is on the wage and verge of doing what millions would love to do, and because he's not being picked he's behaving like a spoilt little tit.

I sincerely hope he achieves all he believes he is capable of at Macclesfield Town. **** off of our club you jumped up prick.

His grammar was unacceptable.

Anyone would think he was plucked out of school at an early age, had money thrown at him, and had it reinforced that his athletic prowess will more than compensate for his lack of intellect.

That said, this bloke will be working in a market somewhere in the next few years, and because he chose football instead of education he'll be proppaaaa foooked.

Is there some kind of safety net of sorts for footballers who don't make the grade? Does the PFA provide education programs etc etc? Not saying Sappleton deserves any help, but wondering if there is any assistance to players who don't make the grade?

My understanding is that that is one of the PFA's key functions.

And why wouldn't the kid deserve any help? Seems to me he's just followed some bad advice at some point (probably at the time his agent said 'join Leicester, Martin Allen loves you and will be there forever'). Everyone deserves a second chance.

But someone needs to crack him over the head until he stops that 'lool' bollocks.
