Hello,
A mate (mate 1) of mine works for a events recruitment company and another mate of mine (mate 2) needed a job urgently.
I asked mate 1 if he had anything available and it just so happened that he was short of staff for some wedding and needed workers for the reception. Mate 2 went along and did 8 of the, in his words, "worst work amongst utter snobs ever" and vowed never to do such work again.
Earlier in the day, mate 1 had told mate 2 that there was work at Headingley starting at 7.30am the next day. Mate 2 agreed to do it but after the disaster of the wedding work didn't go, didn't even tell mate 1 that they weren't going to go. He did however tell mate 1's fellow member of recruitment staff who in turn didn't tell mate 1.
Now mate 1 refuses to pay mate 2 for the hours he worked. I'm on mate 2's side as surely if you work hours, you should get paid for them.
Does anyone know any employment law or anything or what mate 2 can do to recover the pay he's not received?
Thanks,
